Leo's POV

"Dad's gonna come get in us in about 15 minutes." Said April, popping her head into y/n's bedroom. "You ready?"

Y/n dragged her eyes off mine, and turned to nod at April.

"Yeah, I've just got to pack this up." She smiled, gesturing to all the takeaway bowls, plates and utensils.

I began helping her gather up all our used plastic bowls and putting them in a trash bag to be thrown away.

"So, how's school?" I asked casually. "Anyone taking you to prom or something?" I asked, nudging her.

"Nah" she rolled her eyes. "I keep my social circle small, you know?"

"Nice way to call yourself a loner."

"Hey!" She lightly smacked my arm. "I have a few friends,I guess."

Man, she's so pretty.

"What about you? Any mutant girlfriend you train with, or something?"

An image of Karai flashed through my head.

I laughed nervously in response.

"No, I've got nothing like that going on in my life..."

The guilt hit me, and I realised how badly I wanted y/n, and for that to happen, I needed to move past Karai and whatever it is we had going on back then.

"Listen" she said, snapping me away from my insecurities. "I have my term break starting week after next. Let's hang out more then?"

A warm sensation of excitement coursed through me.

"Definitely. Let's get you to April's now."

Your POV

On the drive to April's there were only a few things running through my mind.

One of them was Leo, obviously. Part of me wished he wasn't so... different, so maybe it wouldn't be as difficult for us to be together. Not that it would ever happen, and I wouldn't want to risk ruining our friendship.

But the more sensible part of me realised that he is who he is because of what he is. I realised that I liked him because he was charming and funny and he genuinely wanted to be friends with me. It didn't matter what he looked like. Even if we'd never be together in that way, even though I really wanted it... I'd always love him for him.

"What are ya thinking about, y/n?" April nudged me as we sat beside eachother in the backseat. Glancing at her father sitting at the drivers seat, focusing on the road, she leaned in to me and whispered deviously,
"Leo?"

"Why would I be thinking of Leo?" I whispered back indignantly.

April rolled her eyes.

"Uh huh. Yeah, sure." She taunted.

——

April's place was similar to mine.

"Make yourself at home, y/n. I'm gonna head out to run some errands." Mr O'Neil said, putting the keys down on the counter before turning back and walking out the front door.

"Let me show you my room!" April chirped.

April's room was way bigger than mine, albeit a tad messier.

"I put your spare mattress by the window." April said. "Maybe then you won't be so homesick."

I smiled.

"Thanks for being so thoughtful"

"Don't mention it."

As I began unpacking, April suddenly let out a deep sigh.
