Chapter 3

Third Person's POV

A short while later, Kyungsoo and Junmyeon—also known as D.O. and Suho—finally arrived at the cafeteria, sliding into seats with the rest of the group.

Baekhyun raised an eyebrow at them, clearly unimpressed. "Where the hell have you two been? I thought you got kidnapped or something."

The two exchanged a quick look, and for a moment, neither seemed eager to share where they had been.

Suho, the eldest, flashed a polite but nervous smile. "Oh, the principal needed our help with a few things around the school."

Baekhyun stared at him, unamused. "Really…" he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "You’re just full of surprises, huh?" He shot a glance at Kyungsoo, who offered only a quiet smile in response.

"Anyway," Junmyeon quickly shifted the topic. "What did we miss? Did we miss anything important in class?"

Baekhyun rolled his eyes, not convinced by their excuse but not willing to press the matter further. "Not really," he replied, leaning back in his seat. "Most of the teachers weren’t even here, so they gave us a project to work on in pairs. Kyung, you’re with Kai, and Hyung, you’re with that Lay guy."

Suho frowned. "His name’s Lay, Baek."

Baekhyun waved his hand dismissively. "Yeah, yeah, whatever." His eyes darkened slightly as his thoughts shifted. Why did I end up with him of all people? The idea of working with Oh Sehun made him cringe. This has to be some sick joke.

Kai, as usual, entered the cafeteria with his signature grin, followed closely by Lay, whose playful dimples made him seem always in a good mood. "Hey, bitches!" Kai called out, clearly in a great mood.

Chen, sitting nearby, rolled his eyes dramatically. "Shut up, Jongin. Seriously. Where have you two been? I haven’t seen you in forever."

Lay just smiled, sliding into a seat next to Sehun. "Just fixing some stuff," he said nonchalantly.

"Fixing what?" Sehun finally asked, his voice laced with curiosity.

"Just... stuff," Kai said dismissively, clearly not in the mood to elaborate. "Anyway, I’m starving. Hyung, let’s grab something to eat." He nudged Lay, eager to change the subject.

Sehun watched them closely, feeling that something was off. His friends were being suspicious, but he didn’t push them for answers, letting it slide for the moment.

"Hey, bitch-face hyung," Kai called, elbowing Chen. "Can you pass me the sauce?"

Chen shot him a venomous look but handed over the sauce anyway. "How dare you call a gorgeous man like me a bitch, huh? Where’s your manners, Kim Jongin?"

Kai grinned widely. "Aren’t you a bitch, Chennie hyung?" He enjoyed riling Chen up, and it was clear by the mischievous glint in his eyes.

Chen narrowed his eyes and pointed his fork threateningly at Kai. "Say that one more time, and I’ll break your bones."

Kai laughed, completely unbothered. "Oh, I’m so scared," he teased, his laughter echoing through the cafeteria.

Sehun, sitting quietly but with a dangerous aura, suddenly spoke up. "Both of you, shut up."

At the sharpness of his tone, the two instantly quieted, sensing the coldness in Sehun’s voice. Lay, as usual, simply observed the chaos, his expression calm and entertained.

"Sehun, Jongin, Jongdae, Yixing—get back here!"

The teacher’s shout echoed through the halls as the four boys sprinted away, easily hopping over the school’s high walls, as they skipped yet another class.

“These kids…” the teacher muttered under his breath, his shoulders slumping in defeat. He walked back into the classroom, shaking his head.

Baekhyun, who had been watching the whole spectacle, shook his head in disbelief. "Idiots," he muttered, his voice full of disdain.

His eyes fell on Sehun, who planned the entire escape. How does he do it? Baekhyun wondered, watching Sehun laugh with his friends. How does he manage to skip classes every day and still stay at the top of the class?

The idea frustrated him. Sehun could skip as many classes as he wanted, yet he still ended up performing better than most of them. It wasn’t fair.

So much for being a genius, Baekhyun thought bitterly. How does he keep getting away with it?
