[season one, episode 6]

--

The next day, Lily walked downstairs to find Rebekah scrubbing at the floors while Klaus sat on the sofa, reading from a book. She immediately tensed at the smell of blood, trying to control the bloodlust that she found consuming her whenever she caught the scent of the liquid she desired.

"Is that blood?" Lily asked, furrowing her eyebrows slightly as she looked towards the ground, where Rebekah was attempting to clean up the mess Klaus had made with someone she assumed he had found on the streets.

"Yes, would you like some?" Klaus asked tauntingly, smirking slightly as he flipped through the pages of his book. Lily rolled her eyes at his remark, but didn't say anything in response. Klaus knew that she had only drank directly from the vein a few times before, but he figured one day, she would crack and lose control, no matter how hard Elijah tried to stop it.

"Poetry about poisoned apples from dead trees. Looks like someone is worried about impending daddyhood." Rebekah stated, squeezing the sponge into the bucket of water next to her as she looked over at her brother.

"Nonsense. Elijah is back. In his presence, all problems turn to pixie dust and float away." Klaus smirked slightly at his sister before turning back to his book.

"Strange, I don't recall any pixie dust from the darkness of the coffin I was recently forced to endure." Elijah cut in, walking into the room as he smiled softly at Lily, kissing her cheek gently. "Good morning." He looked down at her, watching as a smile appeared on her lips at the sight of him, which made him more content than ever.

"Good morning." Lily replied, ignoring Klaus' eye roll directed their way, tired of their constant adoration for each other.

"What are you doing with mother's spell book?" Rebekah asked, noticing the book Elijah was carrying in his hands.

"Well, in exchange for my freedom, I promised the witch Davina that I would share a few pages from mother's grimoire." Elijah explained, flipping through the pages in search for a certain spell. "It'll help her learn to control her magic. Thought we'd begin with a little unlinking spell." Lily knew he was talking about Hayley, and she felt the burn of jealousy slowly return to her stomach, but she quickly suppressed it, knowing she was overthinking everything, as usual.

"Wait, you want to use her to unlink Hayley from Sophie Devereaux?" Rebekah asked, widening her eyes slightly at her brother.

"Sophie brought us to this town under false pretenses. She doesn't just want us to take down Marcel and his minions, she wants us to take Davina back." Elijah explained, glancing around at all of them as he spoke. "So she yoked her own cause to ours with magic, threats and half-truths. Well, no more. As of now, our deal with Sophie Devereaux is null and void." Elijah added, causing them all to glance at each other in confusion. "Niklaus, I need you to come with me. I need five minutes alone with Davina. You need to make certain that I am not interrupted."

"What if she hurts you?" Lily cut in, causing Elijah to turn and face her, shaking his head slightly at her concern. Based on what Lily had heard, Davina was an incredibly powerful witch, even up against Original vampires.

"She won't." Elijah assured Lily, glancing over at Rebekah for a moment. "You two stay here and watch Hayley." He added, causing Lily to roll her eyes as Rebekah looked surprised at Elijah's orders.

"Let's all protect the wolf, shall we?" Lily muttered, causing Rebekah to send her a look as Klaus smirked slightly, knowing how jealous the girl was. He thought it was quite amusing how oblivious both her and Elijah were to one another's intentions sometimes.
