[season one, episode eight]
--
After bringing Elijah inside the shack, Hayley began to look around, hoping to find clues about the werewolves that lived in the bayou.
"Elijah, are you sure you're okay?" Lily asked for the millionth time, causing Elijah to turn and face her, setting his hands on her forearms gently.
"I will be fine. Stop your unnecessary worrying." Elijah replied, rubbing her arms gently as she sighed out softly.
"You have a huge bite on your neck, I think I am allowed to worry." Lily retorted, causing Elijah to chuckle quietly and press a small kiss to her forehead. "At least go lay down on the bed. You're heating up." She added, glancing up at his face, which was starting to glisten with sweat.
"She's right. You should probably lie down." Hayley cut in, looking up from the book she had been examining.
Elijah nodded slightly, pulling away from Lily to walk over to the bed, laying down as Lily glanced over at Hayley.
"Will you grab a cup of water?" Lily asked, walking over to the bed to sit down next to Elijah, causing Hayley to nod slightly.
Hayley filled a cup of water and then handed it to Lily, who smiled gratefully and slowly lifted it to Elijah's lips. He started to drink from the cup, but immediately began to cough, spitting out the water onto Lily's pants and shoes.
"Hayley, go outside." Lily stated, taking the cup and setting it down as a look of concern washed over her face.
"What? No, I'm not leaving." Hayley argued, crossing her arms as she looked down at Lily.
"I will handle this. Leave." Lily ordered, knowing Hayley didn't need to see Elijah like that. She could handle it on her own.
Hayley sighed softly, but agreed, leaving to go sit out on the porch and look through the book she had found.
"Forgive me, please." Elijah gasped out, his breath shortening as Lily sighed softly.
"It's okay, Elijah." Lily replied, rubbing her hand gently on his arm as she looked down at him with a worried expression. He began to cough again, shaking his head slightly.
"Lily, this fever will make me unstable. Once these hallucinations begin, I'll start to see things. I will start to say things, you must leave me." Elijah explained, looking up into Lily's eyes as he begged her to go. He knew she didn't deserve to see him like that.
"Absolutely not. I'm staying, we've been through worse than this." Lily replied, shaking her head slightly as she looked down at him.
Elijah was about to reply, but he felt a sharp pain go through his body, causing him to jerk slightly as he groaned out in pain. Lily quickly shifted her body so she was sitting on the bed, carefully laying his head in her lap.
"Elijah, it's okay, it's okay." Lily tried to calm him down, her hands running through his hair gently as he gasped out for air.
But, as her hands came in contact with his skull, she began to see what he was hallucinating.
She saw an image of a girl in a bathtub; a girl she didn't recognize.
"Celeste.." Elijah muttered, his hands reaching up to grab Lily's arms. Lily was confused, considering Elijah had never told her about Celeste.
She took her hands off of his head as he came back to his senses, his eyes darting up to meet hers.
"Lily, I thought you were someone else." Elijah breathed out, beads of sweat still trickling down his face.
"Celeste?" Lily asked softly, looking down to meet his gaze as his eyes widening slightly.
"Did I let you enter my thoughts?" Elijah asked, furrowing his eyebrows as he glanced over her face.
"It's okay." Lily assured him, grabbing a towel to dab it on his forehead gently.
Elijah began to hallucinate again, and Lily saw it as she dabbed at his forehead. He was hallucinating about Celeste, having a full conversation with her about how perfect she was. Lily knew this must've been a while ago, considering the clothes and how the house was decorated.
"Celeste.. Forgive me." Elijah panted out, not realizing Lily was the one holding him.
All of a sudden, Elijah sat up, screaming as he hunched over the bed. Lily quickly stood kneeling down next to him as she grabbed his shoulder carefully.
"Elijah, hey. It's me." Lily spoke softly, looking down at him with concern.
"Niklaus, I'll kill you, you bastard." Elijah snapped his head up, staring at her as the veins under his eyes began to appear and his irises turned red.
"No, Elijah, it's me." Lily replied, shaking her head quickly as she tried to calm him down.
Elijah quickly vamped over to her, pressing her against the wall as he wrapped his hand around her neck, choking her. Lily gasped for breath, wrapping her hands around his arm as she tried to pull out of his grasp, but he was a whole lot stronger than her.
Hayley had heard the noise from outside, and was about to come running in, but a girl with blonde hair beat her to it.
She stabbed Elijah in the back with a stake, causing him to let go of Lily and fall to the ground.
"Lily!" Hayley exclaimed, looking at her with concern written all over her face.
"I'm fine." Lily breathed out, leaning her head against the wall as she looked over at the girl that had saved her.
Hayley took the girl outside to talk to her, and Lily quickly realized she must've been a werewolf, too.
Elijah woke up a few minutes later, groaning slightly as he removed the stake from his back.
"Lily.." Elijah trailed off, his eyes meeting hers as she sat against the wall, still hesitant to talk to him. "Did I hurt you?" He asked, his eyes widening slightly as he noticed her hesitation.
"You're not hallucinating anymore.." Lily sighed out softly in relief, standing up to meet his gaze.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to." Elijah replied, his face softening as he realized he had hurt her. That was the last thing he had ever intended to do.
"No, it's fine, Elijah. You weren't acting like yourself." Lily insisted, pulling him into her embrace quickly.
Elijah wrapped his arms around Lily, his hand stroking through her hair gently as he shook his head slightly.
"You should have left when I told you to." Elijah stated softly, pulling away to look down at her.
"I would never leave you like that." Lily replied, cupping his cheek gently as she pecked his lips softly. "Let's go find Hayley, then we can go home." She added, causing him to nod slightly.
"Before we do, though. The hallucinations I was having.. Celeste was a woman I used to love, back in the 18th century." Elijah stated, his eyes never leaving Lily's as he spoke. "She ended up dead because I cared about her. Klaus killed her." He explained, his face tightening slightly as he thought about it. "That is why I am so hesitant with your safety. I could never live with myself if I let you go, too." He added, causing Lily to shake her head quickly.
"You won't lose me, Elijah. You're stuck with me, unfortunately." Lily replied, smiling softly as she watched his lips curl up slightly. "I understand she meant a lot to you, and I'm sorry Klaus did that." She added, truthfully.
"I love you so much." Elijah breathed out, his thumb grazing over her cheek gently as he spoke.
"And I love you."
