[ WELL, WELL, WELL ]
"hey, come on, it's the only place we haven't looked." john b says, opening the small door to the cellar.
the others went in behind him into the creepy basement.
"down came ms. crain and cut off all our heads." jj whispered in a sing-song voice. "up came the sun and dried up all the blood."
"can you not?" maya turned her head around to snap at him.
"you see any water?" kei said. "another dead end?"
"there's not even water in the pipes." jj said, running his hand across them.
"there's no water here." pope says.
"not a dropamino." jj said.
"know why we didn't find it?" kei said, "bad karma."
"here we go." john b says.
"you know, we had a good thing going... and then you decide to rope in barbie, and now the trail's gone dry. coincidence? probably not."
"this is exactly why i didn't want to tell you about sarah." john b says.
"yeah?"
"yeah. what the hell is the deal with you two?"
"nothing."
"nothing? is it because i kissed you? is that the problem?"
kei didn't say anything as she slapped john b, everyone be shocked by the sudden outburst.
"oh!" pope said.
"oh, fuck."
"holy shit."
"that echoed—"
"stop treating me like i'm some girl that's obsessed with you instead of your best friend who's actually trying to look out for you."
"did you, uh... hit me?" john b said.
"skeeter." kei said, holding up her hand to show the dead bug.
"skeeter?"
"yeah, you see it?"
"yeah." john b said then slapped kei, too.
"ooh, k.."
"no—"
"where's your proof?" kei asked.
"skeeter." john b held up his hand, too.
"yeah? there's probably one right there."
"yeah, actually, there is."
"yeah, really?"
the two began to play fight each other as pope tried to shush them.
"god, they're swarming." maya said, slapping her arm where a mosquito was.
"why are there so many mosquitos in a basement?" pope asked aloud.
"dude, i know." jj said, "tiny vampire bats, leave me alone."
"tiny vampire bats?" maya repeated what he said.
"yeah, they're like tiny vampire bats." jj said.
"that's.. a new one." maya said.
"oh, my god." jj slapped more mosquitos off him, "can we just leave?"
maya had abandoned jj's plea for help with the bugs, interested by what caught popes's attention.
"oh, my god." maya said when the rock pope dropped fell through the crack and a splash was sounded.
they both looked up at each other as their mouths slightly parted.
"no way." pope said, both of them moving the stuff over the wood floor.
they began to shush pope and maya, who just asked for help moving the stuff.
"well, well, well." pope said once they looked down the well that was uncovered.
"that was a good dad joke."
"they built this part of the house right over it." kei said.
"this is where she hid the bodies." jj said.
"oh, shit, dude." pope said.
"stop." kei said.
"no, i'm dead serious." jj said. "it was never an outhouse."
"stop it." kei said. "she probably doesn't even know it's here."
"so... we found water." pope said.
"we're gonna need a really big rope." john b said.
