The man directly opposite us rose his weapon and swung at Curtis. Curtis grabbed the attacker's arm and used his own axe to hit the masked mans torso, injuring him instantly. Edgar lunged forward with his own baton, taking down another man before grabbing his axe and using it to kill its previous owner. Curtis and Edgar continued to relentlessly hit at the attacking men as the rest of the axemen and tail passengers began to battle. Male passengers in front of me were brought to the ground before the axe wielders sliced aggressively at their flesh, claiming more lives. I soon lost sight of Curtis and Edgar, I knew worrying about them would make me vulnerable, so I pushed them from my mind and focused on the fight before me. Holding my knife ready to stab, I lunged the weapon harshly towards an axeman who was stalking towards me.
My knife slashed the man across his temple causing him to fall to the floor in pain. Kicking his head to ensure he was down I dropped the knife and grabbed the axe from his hand claiming it as my own, just like Edgar had. It was very heavy and as I was getting used to its weight, the man I had just knocked down grabbed my ankle in an attempt to floor me. Instinctively I slammed the axe downwards and into his arm causing him to let go and yelp in pain. Without a second thought, I sliced the axe across his throat, ending his life. The action caused the axeman's blood to spurt from his veins and cover my jacket. I grimaced before turning around suddenly at the sound of heavy boots rushing towards me. As I had spun around, I was met by another masked man who was holding his axe above his head, me in his sights. The man may have been bigger than me, but I was more nimble.
I took the opportunity to dodge past him, using my axe to slice the backs of his legs and bring him to his knees. The man dropped his axe as he gripped his legs, but I took his vulnerable situation as a green light, ramming my axe into his back, knowing the pain and blood loss would end his life. The man screamed out as I removed my axe by putting my foot on his back and pulling my weapon out of his body, blood splattering across my face. The man fell to the floor with a thud. I grabbed his axe with my left hand and spun around looking towards the next group of axemen coming my way.
Now wielding two axes I moved towards a group of axemen who were slicing up a limp looking body on the floor. With the henchmen clearly distracted I rose my axe's before hitting one man in the head and the other in the shoulder. The man I hit in the head collapsed instantly, but the other rose to his full hight staring me down. I let go of the axe that was still embedded in his shoulder and retrieved my other axe from the dead man's head. The axeman grabbed the axe in his shoulder, ripping it from his body as he smirked at me. I gulped, the man lunged for me, knocking me to the floor. I quickly rolled from my front onto my back before jumping up, back into a standing position. The man was still coming at me, but his shoulder was heavily bleeding, I took my axe and swung it once more at the man's shoulder before kicking him between the legs. The pain from both areas of his body brought him to his knees. He was now at the perfect height for my final blow. I swung my axe into the side of his neck, his head lunging to the left as the gash began to tear, confirming that I had almost beheaded him. The axeman was dead, and it became clear that bringing my enemies to their knee's was the most beneficial way for my petite build to take them down.
"Team two, move." I heard Curtis yell, I looked forward, relief washing over me as I realised he was okay. I stood on my tiptoes and saw him running forward with some other men as the number of axemen around me began to lessen. "Move forward!" I heard Edgar yell, I looked to my left and saw he was pretty much beside me, it was hard to take in where everyone was with all the noise that was going on. All I could hear were painful shouts and the slashing of blades. I looked between Edgar and Curtis before rushing forward with another group of tail end passengers, axe raised and ready to end the life of the next person who stood in my way. As two men ran ahead of me, I watched helplessly as they were taken down by axemen wearing a bulletproof vest. "Oh my God. "I breathed, not knowing how to take on the two men that were stalking towards me. With only their mouths visible, both men gave me a sickening smirk, just like the man before. Their action filled me with so much anger. Before I knew it, I was running at them, seeing red, not even evaluating my actions. As one man lifted his axe in the air and began to bring it down, I used my own axe to block his attack. With his weapon unusable I kicked him in the balls, the action had clearly become a favourite of mine, but you couldn't deny how effective it was. As the man dropped his axe to clutch his crutch, I took my axe and swung it around his head, blood from his fresh wound spraying across my cheek. Seconds later I felt myself being tugged from behind.
The other axeman had grabbed onto my coat and was pulling me towards him. Grateful that I hadn't done my coat up, I quickly slipped out of the jacket and spun around to face him. The cold air instantly caused goosebumps on my arms. I now only had my turtleneck and jeans on, but I didn't have time to react to the cold as the axeman threw my coat at me, obscuring my vision. I quickly threw the coat away from my face and ducked just in time as the man swung his axe at my head. The blade barely missing my skin. I stood back upright and swung my own blade towards him, thrilled as it cut through the axeman's face. My swinging action had caused my hair to stick to the blood that covered my cheeks. As the two men laid limp at my feet in a pool of their own blood, I looked down at myself as the fighting continued behind me.
My blue jeans were stained crimson and my fingerless gloved hands were covered in blood. The axe I was holding was hanging from my hand by the floor, blood dripping from the blade. I took in a deep breath, the thought of the lives I had just brutally taken replaying on my memory, what had I turned into. Knowing the fight was far from finished, I gritted my teeth and ran my fingers through my hair, unsticking the strands from my face and clearing my vision. I pulled my axe back into both hands and marched forward. Still unsure of who was still alive.
I could see Curtis, just up in front. He was effortlessly moving throughout hordes of men, ducking in time to their blows and attacking back with a precision that ended their lives instantly. One henchman swung his axe by Curtis's throat, but it made no difference to Curtis, he simply leant back and dodged the blow before slamming his own axe into his attacker's head and watching him fall to the floor. Curtis was on a mission and continued taking on guard after guard, anyone in his way was his next target. I looked away from him once more as another masked figure ran at me. Copying what I had seen Curtis do, I swung my axe in an upwards motion using all my might. The blade effortlessly sliced the attackers throat from his Adam's apple to his chin and the action made more blood spray across me.
From the corner of my eye, I saw Curtis fall. I spun around facing his direction, realising he had slipped on that stupid fish they threatened us within the beginning. I watched as Curtis landed on his back, seconds later an axeman was above him. I rushed towards Curtis, but the axeman had already begun to swing his axe downwards towards Curtis's face. I continued running forward pushing everyone out of my way. Not Curtis, not now. I thought as I got closer to him. Luckily, Curtis had anticipated the axeman's moves and rolled onto his side as the axe hit the floor where his face once was. I let out a sigh of relief as Curtis whacked his own axe into the attacker's leg, bringing the standing man to the floor. By this point, I had reached Curtis's side and brought my own axe down into the axeman's skull, ending his life before he could go for Curtis anymore. I held out my hand to Curtis, who took it gratefully as I pulled him back to his feet. Nothing was said between us, but I could tell we were both grateful that the other was still alive. Curtis's eyes widened as he pulled me behind him, another axeman was lunging at us while we were distracted.
However, before anything could happen, I watched as Edgar sprinted past us and threw his whole body at the axeman cannonball style, bringing the attacker to the ground. With Edgar now pinning the axeman to the floor, Curtis rushed forward executing Wilford's henchman with one hit. The man's blood sprayed across Curtis's face. I moved forward, holding a handout to Edgar. As I pulled the boy up, I looked to Curtis as he wiped some of the blood from his face, looking forward aggressively. Blood covered the windows either side of us and I looked to Edgar worryingly as Curtis pushed between us and walked forward. Edgar and I stood silently as we looked on. More masked axe-wielding men were queued up before us. Another wave. I couldn't believe it. I looked back as the fighting behind us began to slow, indicating that we had defeated the first wave, but many of our own laid amongst the dead and I didn't know how many more of us would survive.
