It was silent for a few long moments in the dining room. The four members of the royal family sitting at their designated places at the large pristine table. A prayer had already been said, the food had already been served. Yet a slightly uncomfortable silence had fallen over them ever since the the whole ordeal had started.

Why it was so uncomfortable, Taehyung had no clue. Maybe it was each person's inability to come up with something to discuss without it becoming a debate. Or maybe the fact that it was an unusual occurrence that they all sat down and ate together.

However, as unnatural as the whole thing felt, Taehyung and his siblings couldn't remember a time when it wasn't like this. Maybe faded memories of times when smiles were brought to each face of the children and parents. Distant and blurry flashes of a time when it was comfortable. When no one felt like they couldn't talk.

It was tragic really. The fact that it had turned out this way. But it seems that's what happens when people grow apart. When things happen and no one talks about it healthily. When a wedge is put between the sweet and the bitter.

And then the heavy silence was broken.

"You all are most likely wondering why I called you here." It was the King. His voice smooth and cheery—almost too cheery to be genuine. The two eldest looked at their father, wanting to know what he was talking about, while the youngest mostly focused on spooning rice into his mouth.

"Go on, Father." Taehyung said respectfully, voice level.

"Well," The King put down his silverware. "As you all know, your brother Taehyung's coronation is coming soon."

Oh my, where is he going with this? Taehyung thought, knowing his Father all to well to pass this off as a normal conversation. He had something planned and deep down, Taehyung didn't like it at all. Not one bit. So he looked down at his food, keeping a straight face, not letting anyone know his actual feelings.

He could feel his sisters eyes on him, and Jeongguk. Right, Jeongguk. He would know Taehyung hated this by just how his breathing pattern changed. Just how his eyes shifted down.

The gazes piercing into him really didn't help how he felt. That and his Father talking with the all too heavy facade that Taehyung disliked so very much.

The Prince took his beautiful crystal glass into his right hand delicately, taking a small sip of his water. A small gesture to somehow cure the dryness in his mouth and throat.

The walls of the almost golden dining room felt suffocating in moments like this. Moments of suspense, where he was left to listen to sentences being said about things he wasn't fond of. The sun shining through the large clean glass windows  should have been more comforting then they were.

Somehow they taunted him.

Taehyung's eyes flickered to where Jeongguk stood by the dining room doors. He stood straight but when Taehyung looked at him, their eyes met. It confirmed Jeongguk had been looking at him, but his eyes held softness. Silently asking him if he was okay.

Taehyung looked away, back at his father.

"I was thinking we could have a pre-coronation celebration for him." Oh god. Taehyung wanted to disappear. "Wouldn't that be just grand?" The king looked at him with eyes that told him to agree—that he didn't have a choice to say no.
