Title: Ignorance Is Bliss
House: Hufflepuff
"Draco's spaced out again" you mutter to yourself, gazing over at the platinum-haired boy from your table, you and Draco rarely spoke, in fact, he only really spoke to you when he was in Hogsmeade or well... going to go. Finishing your breakfast, you looked up to see that he was gone before you gathered your things, making your way quickly out of the hall to get to potions class. As you were walking to the class you spotted the Slytherin not far ahead of you talking to a smiling messy-haired girl called Pansy, to be honest, you thought she resembled a bulldog, but Draco didn't mind her so you never brought it up in case it offended the boy. Looking down at the ground you continued on your way to Snape's class. You were pretty average at potions, nobody was sat next to you as to the fact that Snape deemed you to be incapable of working with one. The class in itself was boring, the same thing would always repeat itself and you hadn't witnessed ever go any differently. Snape would yell, the Ravenclaws would get praise, Slytherins would get house points for answering basic questions, Hufflepuffs were belittled and Gryffindors lose points for existing.
Observing your fellow classmates you watched the same routine once again, huffing as the Slytherins rejoiced at the house points they'd gained for getting the correct answer for the name of a potion. Your eyes wandered over once again to the blonde-haired boy, you always worried about him even if you knew he was perfectly fine. Whenever you two went to Hogsmeade he would talk about his family for a short time, from what you'd gathered throughout the years his parents weren't the nicest of the bunch. You were so zoned out that you didn't notice Snape strutting over to your desk, book in hand. 'WHACK' you let out a groan as the book smacked the back of your head, "Pay attention (L/N)." he instructed firmly, his soulless eyes creeping under your skin. Nodding quickly you looked down at your Potions book, silently scribbling down every word he uttered for the rest of the lesson.
Once again when you looked up to see if Draco was there again only to see Snape's eyes staring deep into your heart "Ms (L/N) stay here. I must have an urgent word with you." he spoke slowly his voice as cold as ice. You watched as the other classmates cleared away, some stealing glances at you while you sat patiently at your desk. One person even winked at you, causing you to scrunch up into yourself out of pure and utter disgust.
By the time everyone had left Snape was making his way to your desk, as soon as he arrived he slammed his hands onto the surface and once again glared into your soul "Ms (L/N). I enquire you stay away from Malfoy." shocked at his request your eyes widened "W-what" you stuttered out in confusion "He has mentioned you to me on occasion and I have deemed it is best for you to stay away. Stop thinking about him. He has more important things to do than worry about some prissy muggle-born he talks to once a century. Leave him alone." His stern voice worked its way through your brain, your heart seemed to ache at the thought of not seeing or talking to Draco again. He was the only person who actually took the time to ask you to Hogsmeade with him, even if it was platonic it was still extravagantly sweet of the boy.
Looking down at your desk you averted your gaze from the professor, "No sir." you muttered back "What do you mean no. You have no say in this i-" you cut Snape off "No sir! I will not stay away from Draco Malfoy! You have no control of who I hang out with or when I hang out with them! So for the last bloody time no!" you yelled in retaliation, standing up hands slamming onto the desk once more staring him in the eyes. Snape seemed to be taken aback by your attitude before regaining his gaze "10 points from Hufflepuff. Leave." he spoke once again, in a deep deadly voice. "Gladly," you remarked grabbing your things and putting them away hastily before strutting out of the classroom.
"I cannot believe that man, honestly who does Snape think he is. Telling me who I can and cannot hang out with. BLASPHEMY." you continued to mutter angrily to yourself as you stormed down the halls after a while of marching you found yourself at the Quidditch pitch, you often hid under the stands to escape people when you wanted to be alone, it was a good place to calm down. Finding your way to a corner spot you took a seat on the ground, curling up into a tight ball as you overthought every word Draco had ever said to you, every action or gesture he made. "He doesn't need me does he..." you muttered as Snape's words repeated over and over in your head, convincing you to leave him alone. "Maybe... he's right..." tears welled up in your eyes as you tried to hold onto yourself tighter "I should leave everyone alone." you settled, the thoughts in your head telling you to numb yourself from everyone around you and for once, you let them have their way.
A year had passed since you had made the decision to stop acknowledging that Draco Malfoy ever existed, you were sitting in a booth on the Hogwarts Express listening to music on your walk-man a muggle made a device that played music tapes. Your father had recorded a couple of songs he knew you liked and put them on a few tapes for you, although if you two didn't get along extremely well he always tried to make you feel like you had a place at home even if you weren't going to be there for months on end. You stared out the window, watching the same scenery you'd seen for the past couple of years flying by. It never lost its beauty, every time you saw it your heart filled with nostalgia of the first time you went to Hogwarts. Losing yourself in the moment you relaxed into your seat, it almost felt like you were in a music video.
Not only five minutes later of relaxing you heard the door slam open, your head shot over to come eye to eye with the same platinum blonde-haired boy you'd ignored for the past year. His stormy gaze held the same snark it always did, but he looked as if he'd been tormented. "(Y/N)." His voice was coated in confusion as he watched your expression change to an extremely bored one "Yes? What do you want Malfoy." You made sure to make your voice as monotone as possible, trying to get across the point that you did not one a single thing to do with him. "Malfoy..." he muttered to himself in disbelief, quickly clearing his throat as if it dismiss it "I wanted to sit with you-" you glared daggers at him "Don't even think about it." your voice coated with venom, something in your heart tore as you watched his eyes widen, his gaze became almost pleading but he complied to your wishes. Looking out the window once more you heard the booth door close, feeling stinging tears well up you wiped them away as fast as you could with the sleeve of your robe.
'Numb. Just be numb.' You repeated in your head, walking through the halls of the humongous school. You weren't going particularly anywhere, in fact, this had become a regular pass time. Most of the day if you didn't have classes you were wandering the halls, it was almost like you had done this the entire time you had been at Hogwarts. Nobody spoke to you, you were like a myth among the students, you were in your house common room for only moments before you had left. Nobody spoke to you, your name was only spoken of like a memory. You were a ghost and you liked it that way. Suddenly a hand grabbed yours, you felt yourself get pulled back and pushed against the wall. Closing your eyes you took in a sharp breath, this was it, this was the end. Preparing yourself for a fate that wasn't coming the person spoke "(Y/N) fucking look at me." opening your eyes you saw him, Draco, his hair messy and his robes ruffled. He looked as if he had been crying, this had only happened once before but even now seemed different. He never cried in front of anyone.
"Mal-" you were interrupted "please... don't say anything... just-" his voice broke, a small sniffle coming from him "sit somewhere with me?" he needed you, he wanted to sit with you, he went out of his way. Thoughts flew through your brain of what you should say, your heart aching as you stared at him. Finally, you gave in, giving him a small nod to which you heard him sigh in relief followed by a dry chuckle as he moved away from you and the wall. Holding onto his sleeve you slowly lead him to the stands under the Quidditch pitch, finding yourself there once again you stared as you watched Draco sit in the same place you did. Seeing yourself in the seemingly broken boy you teared up, you felt your knees get weak as you speed walked over to him quickly embracing him tightly as you cried into his shoulder. After a couple of seconds, you felt his arms wrap around you, pulling you closer to him "I'm sorry" you muttered softly a small sniffle following shortly after, "Don't be... I should be the one saying sorry" he played with the back of your hair, trying to soothe you the best he could.
"I should have paid more attention to you, I didn't want to ruin my reputation or be punished by my father for this but... I can't stop thinking about you (Y/N)." his voice was full of sincerity, a small giggle escaped your lips "You're so dumb" you joked. "Oh?" the boy pulled away, he had a genuine smile on his face, one eyebrow cheekily raised at you. Nodding vigorously you laughed "I've never stopped thinking about you" it was true, no matter how much you ignored him you could never fully get him to leave your mind. The times you had together made you happy, his laugh drove you mad when you tried to forget him.
All of a sudden Draco leaned in, leaving a small kiss on your cheek. As he pulled away he let out a breathy chuckle "I'm glad" his smile never left his face as he stared into your (E/C) eyes.

It's been a while since I wrote something in this book, I'm sorry if it's not up to par with the rest however this seemed to be an extremely wholesome concept to me. Even if it is slightly sad.
