Chapter 2

I am outside my parent's house right now. I am thrilled to be here. Note my sarcasm. I've been ringing the doorbell for let's say 7 minutes. It is either that age caught up to my parents and they went deaf, Luce has headphones on or just that they are so unprepared. They probably forgot to cook until 7 minutes ago. Sounds about right.

I was just about to quietly leave and hope they just forgot when Luce opened the door. She immediately hugged me and at that moment I realized just how much I missed my baby sister. She was only 5 years younger than me. When we were smaller, we were inseparable. No one would mess with her at school, because they knew that I would skin them alive. She may annoy A LOT, but I still love her. Don't tell her that. Turning 19 made her a little egotistical, but that's a natural family trait. Along with gorgeous features, if I do say so myself.  (Lovable dork, remember?)

"Hey Luce"

"Hey, William. C'mon, let's go in."

I followed her into the house and she led me straight to the dining room where Mom and Dad were. I haven't seen them in a while. I have been busy taking over my dad's business for the past year and recovering from hell along with that. It's harder than you would think to be the CEO of a billion-dollar property agency. My parents are always pushing their noses in the company though and in my business.

"Ah William, you made just in time for dinner. The food just finished in the oven"

No 'Hi, Son. How are you'. No nothing. Not that I am surprised in any way though. I sat down, they had prepared my favorite, Mac and Cheese. I may be rich and all but I still love my simplicities. So did Cori. We both loved watching the stairs and finding shapes in the clouds. But now when I look up, I see her. Staring at me with blameful eyes. Pull yourself together Will. I wonder if she hates me, she probably...

"We have a proposal we would like to discuss with you," Dad said pulling me out of my thoughts.

For once I was grateful to him.

"What?"

I know I sound rude but if there is anything you should know about my parents it is that they are as crooked and two-faced and anything in the world. When they say that they want to 'discuss' what it actually means that that they are about to tell me something and not give me a say whatsoever.

"I know it's been a while, but do you remember Elizabeth Oteran. I introduced you two at the Charity Banquet a couple of years back. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oternan. You know... Oteran Empire is the leading investment company right now."

"Get to the point Dad. Tell me what you want?"

You see, my parents always enjoy long, sophisticated conversations. Some may even make it sound as though they were fed encyclopedias as children. No offense to my grandparents. They are wonderful.

"It is a total benefit for my company..."

"You mean, MY company, you retired Dad"

Another thing you should know about my parents is that they don't know when to move one. That's most likely where I got it from.

"Yes, yes. Yours, mine, same thing"

Choosing to ignore his arrogance seemed like the best move. I really hate having stupid arguments.

"You are going to make Elizabeth Oteran fall in love with you and then you WILL marry her"

"WHATTTTTTTT?????"

I was literally shaking. How could they? I knew that they never truly cared but I never thought that they were that heartless. After everything that I have been through. After Cori. I don't even like Elizabeth. Frankly, I don't remember her that well. It has been 10 years. All I remember were the glasses and braces. I do however know for sure that I will never marry her. Ever. Not happening people.

"Just listen to us. To be honest,  we are not really giving you much of a choice, her parents have agreed as well"

Wonderful, my mum had to add her acidic comments. I can't form words at all. I can feel my head spinning. I can't see much, just red dots of pure unfiltered anger. No, not anger, RAGE. Unfortunately, I just had to sit and listen.

"Elli is a wonderful girl. Beautiful, smart... Wealthy."

Cori used to be all those things and so, so much more.

"I will not..."

"You WILL meet her, you WILL make her love you, you WILL marry her. Or so help me god her parents will destroy your company. That part wasn't part of the plan but it can be. Your father and I don't need any more money, but you are just starting off and all those poor employees will be left on the street. What a shame it would be"

I had no words. I was being blackmailed by my parents and the parents of a girl I barely remember. What scared me most was that my mother had never once raised her voice at me. Surprising, but true. If they had a soul or even a sliver of a heart, they would have seen the tear run down my cheek. Crying, maybe I really am done.

I got up from the table and left the house. Probably for a long, LONG time.
