"Do you have everything?" Chris asked me, a hint of worry in her voice.

"Normally, yes," I replied, double-checking my bag. "Passport?" Tobin chimed in.

"Yup," I confirmed, patting the pocket of my jacket.

"Okay, let's go then!" Chris announced, and we headed out the door, embarking on our journey to her family's home.

Hours later, after a long flight and a drowsy nap, we landed. Chris gently woke me up, and we made our way out of the airport, the crisp winter air biting at our cheeks. We drove to the Press house, anticipation building within me. As we stepped inside, we were greeted by a warm and welcoming couple – Chris's parents.

"Hi, you must be Madison," the woman said, her eyes twinkling with kindness.

"Yes, t-that's me," I stuttered, a little overwhelmed by the moment.

"Don't be silly, give me a hug," she insisted, pulling me into a warm embrace. I hesitated for a moment before hugging her back, the gesture feeling surprisingly natural. "You can call me Stacy or grandma, whichever you're most comfortable with," she said with a gentle smile.

"It's the same for me, either Cody or grandpa!" the man added, offering a side hug.

The initial awkwardness melted away, replaced by a sense of belonging.

"Madison, come with me," Stacy said, taking my hand. "I'll show you your room."

I followed her upstairs, my heart pounding with anticipation. She opened a door at the end of the hallway, revealing a cozy bedroom adorned with pictures of a younger Christen.

"This is Christen's old bedroom?" I asked, surprised.

"Yes, it is," Stacy confirmed, sitting on the edge of the bed.

"You don't find it weird that I'm here?" I questioned, feeling a twinge of insecurity. "I mean, I'm not really a part of your family, so I understand if it feels strange."

Stacy's eyes widened. "Don't say things like that, Madison. You're a part of this family—"

"—Yes, you're stuck with us forever now!" Tyler, Chris's sister, interjected with a laugh as she passed by the open door.Stacy and I chuckled together, the tension dissipating.

"You know, Chris calls me all the time to tell me about your accomplishments," Stacy continued. "I remember the first game you played with her, and how happy she was. And Thanksgiving... she loves you like a daughter, Madison. And if you make my daughter's life better, then you're more than welcome in this home, and especially in this family."

A warmth spread through me as I listened to her words, my worries fading away. I started unpacking my suitcase, the conversation flowing easily between us.

Meanwhile, Christen was in the kitchen with her dad and Tobin, wondering what we were up to.

"I'm going to check on Madi," she said, excusing herself.

She climbed the stairs and found her mom, sisters, and me laughing together.

"What are you laughing at?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

"We're just telling Madi some embarrassing stories about you," Tyler said with a mischievous grin.

"No matter what they told you, it's not true!" Christen protested, but the laughter only grew louder.

"Is that you and Kelley?" I asked, pointing to a picture on the wall.

"Yes," Christen admitted, a fond smile gracing her lips. "It's from a long time ago, when we were at Stanford together."
