"So you mean to tell me that you haven't found him?"
Namjoon clicked his tongue and watched as the man in front of him narrowed his eyes due to the piece of vague information he had just received.
The tension between them was palpable and it had gotten much harder for Namjoon to remain calm under the intense glances sent his way from across the deserted place that was often used for racing purposes. He was frustrated as well. Frustrated for not being able to obtain any valuable information regarding his fool of a brother.
"And you're also trying to say that the boy didn't offer you any information?" The man's tone reached a low, intimidating level, sending chills down Namjoon's spine.
He bit the inside of his cheek and forced himself to look at the slightly older man, quite unsure of what to say and not make him mad, though it seemed a bit too late for that.
"He was tough to deal with. A bit tougher than I originally thought. I also tried not to hurt him but he showed no signs of cooperation-"
"Enough."
Namjoon's whole body went stiff, eyes shaking as the man let out a frustrated groan and smashed the bottle of alcohol he had been holding due to the anger rushing through his veins.
"You turned out to be more useless than I thought, Namjoon. Can't even find your own brother?! Even worse, you can't even obtain a piece of damn information!" He shrieked, his rough-looking hands balling into fists.
Namjoon clenched his jaw, his own anger overcoming any other emotion he had left. He really felt stupid for not being able to find Yoongi. It should have been an easy job for him. Instead, he had failed and was now faced with the harsh consequences.
"I'm sorry. I'll try harder, I promise." His voice lowered to a forced whisper.
"You'd better bring him to me. And soon. He could be my best asset again, making good money for me." The man chuckled and Namjoon took that as a sign to leave.
"I'll find him this time."
------------
Yoongi had been pacing back and forth for about half an hour, his mind swirling with countless scenarios that could possibly explain why his brother had decided to make an unexpected appearance after such a long time.
Last time they had seen each other was during their parents' funeral and things didn't go that well since Namjoon absolutely despised him for what he had done to their parents, and it was understandable.
Namjoon had always been the golden son. Always the one appreciated for his good grades, social skills and the overall perfect behaviour that any parent would desire from his child.
Yoongi hated him for that. He hated his perfection. He hated him for being the one their parents loved.
That perfection Namjoon had desperately clutched onto for years soon shattered after the tragic death of their parents and Yoongi could do nothing but watch as his grieving brother took wrong decisions as well, involving himself in the illegal races that were supposed to be Yoongi's business only.
The races. That had to be it.
That must have been the reason for his appearance.
The loud banging against his shabby door pulled him out of his thoughts. He rushed to the door, swinging it open and pulling Hoseok inside with an alarmed expression crossing his pale face.
"I came here as fast as I could. What's wrong?" The younger asked, the tinge of worry in his voice being clear as day.
Yoongi sucked in a sharp breath, hands shaking a bit due to the shocking realization that hit him.
"Namjoon is back."
Hoseok blinked once. Twice. Yet he was still unable to process the piece of information that slipped out Yoongi's mouth. He was just as shocked to hear such a thing.
"What?" Was all he said, despite the million questions rushing through his head.
Yoongi groaned and ran a hand through his already disheveled hair. "He came back and he's looking for me." His voice lowered to a barely audible slurr of words and the crease between his brows deepened.
"Wait, how do you know that?" Hoseok blurted out and forced the stressed Yoongi to take a seat.
"He tried to get information out of Taehyung last night."
Hoseok was at a loss of words. He knew how much Namjoon hated Yoongi after what happened.
"But..why would he look for you after all these years? What does he want? And how did he find Taehyung?" A series of questions escaped from Hoseok's mouth, making it even harder for Yoongi to stay calm.
"I think it has to do with the races. He must have been sent by the man I raced for in the past. It's the only explanation I find plausible." He spoke up after a few minutes of silence, his voice sounding more serious than usual.
Hoseok looked up, surprised to hear such a thing. He knew. Knew how hard it was for Yoongi to stop racing and he didn't want him to go down the same path again.
He wasn't going to allow that to happen.
"You're not going to..race again, are you?" He asked, just to make sure, his voice shaking a bit due to the nervousness that nagged him.
Yoongi frowned. If Namjoon really came back to make him join the illegal races again, he wasn't going to accept it. He had been trying for so long to leave that addiction behind, been through hell and back because of it. It'd be foolish of him to start all over again.
"I won't make the same mistake twice. I promised myself to become a better person for Taehyung."
That's all it took for Hoseok to breathe out a sigh of genuine relief. He was convinced that Yoongi would do anything he could in order to achieve his new goal.
He was convinced he'd manage to stay on the right track and get Taehyung, the boy he had grown to love more than anyone else.
