He was in the gym, practicing his serves when he felt the tremor of the earth below him. At first, he thought it was just Hinata running into the gym to get him to set for him, or Daichi coming to tell him to go home.

But even if he had been told to leave, he wouldn't have gone home, he wanted to be anywhere other than in his house, which was right next door to yours. You and Kageyama had gotten into an argument right before practice that day. You had told him that he's been too focused on volleyball, and he needed to focus on school work too. But it wasn't just about school, Kageyama had been paying less and less attention to you by the day. He didn't hold your hand in the hallways anymore or watch you while you studied at lunch, opting instead to walk with Hinata and watch old volleyball games during that time.

He told you that he needed to practice as much as possible before Spring National Qualifiers, that he didn't have time for other things. He'll never forget what you said next.

"So you don't have time for me?"

He could see the tears brimming in your eyes as your lip quivered the slightest bit. He had never seen you cry, but it made him want to wrap you in his arms and press and kiss to your forehead and tell you that he would always have time for you.

Before he could do that, Daichi called for him to get inside the gym. At a loss for words, he left and you ran home.

Kageyama soon realized that this was not the volleyball team storming into the gym, but instead the earth. He quickly ran underneath the stairs and crouched down.

He heard the brooms in the storage closet fall and the volleyball bin tip over, but he didn't care. This was usually the time that you would be walking to pick up your brothers from school. What if you were near a building that collapsed? Or if you fell and were stuck somewhere?

The thought of what he had said earlier erased from his mind as the only thing that went through was that he needed to see you. He needed to know you were ok.

Before he could get deeper into his thoughts, the tremor below his feet stopped. He instantly stood up and raced over to his bag to grab his phone, not caring about all the volleyballs scattered about the gym.

He rummaged through his bag and pulled out his phone and dialed your number. It rang a few times and he thought you weren't going to pick up until he heard his favorite sound.

"Kags?" You asked quietly in the groggy voice you had right after you woke up.

He let out a breath of relief. You were fine. "Hey, t-there was an earthquake, I was just making sure you were alright."

There was an awkward silence. You were still resentful about what he said earlier and he knew you were. "I didn't feel it, I took a nap right when I got home," You said bluntly.

He hummed in response, "What about your brothers?"

"They have a basketball game," another silence settled between you two, and Kageyama was about to say goodbye before you spoke up, "Do you want to come over? No one will be home for a few hours," you paused again before saying quietly, "I-I just need to see you."

He was glad that this was over the phone because he instantly flushed bright red. "I-I'll be there in ten minutes," he said and hung up.

Grabbing his bag and slinging it over his shoulder, he left the gym, leaving the mess of balls behind him. He didn't care that Daichi would yell at him tomorrow when he came in in the morning because all that mattered was seeing you.

He thinks the fact that you were waiting for him and he was so eager to see you made him go faster because he usually jogged to your house in ten minutes, but today it only took six.

Knowing no one else was home, he walked into your house without knocking and made his way up to your room. He poked his head inside and what he saw made him regret everything he had said today.

You were laying down on your bed, with the covers over you and the shades drawn. He assumed you hadn't heard him come in because you hadn't looked up at him. But even from the doorway, he could see your puffy red eyes and tear-stained face.

He walked up to you and kicked off his shoes that he had forgotten to take off at the door. Hesitantly, he lied down on the bed beside you and wrapped his strong arms around your frame and pulled you close to him. You buried your face into his chest and let out a sob that you had been holding in since the moment he hung up the phone.

He shushed you gently and soothingly stroked your hair while bringing his lips to your forehead.

"Tobio," You let out between a sob, "I was so scared."

He furrowed his eyebrows. "I thought you were asleep during it."

"Not during the earthquake dumb ass," you chuckled slightly which made him smile against your forehead. You paused for a moment before saying in barely a whisper, "Kageyama do you  love me?"

You hated that you asked him that. You didn't want to be one of those girls who depended solely on their boyfriends for their happiness, but he had never told you that he loved you, granted, you had never told him. It had never come up, but now you needed to know.

He pulled you even closer to him and lifted your chin so you were looking directly into his deep blue eyes. You sniffed lightly which he found absolutely adorable and he pressed his soft lips against yours.

You stay still for a moment as he waits for you to respond. If you kissed him back what did that mean? Could you love him back? You weren't made for each other, you both knew that. When people talk about your relationship they don't say the words soulmates or true love, but right then, you couldn't help but melt into the kiss.

He rolls so now your knees were on either side of his waist and his hands were on your hips. Although the way you two were positioned may seem lewd, his kiss was soft and sweet. It was different from many of your other kisses. There was no underlying lust or desire.

You both knew that Kageyama had never been good with words, he often turned into a blushing mess whenever he would try to express anything to you, but his kiss told you everything that you needed to know.

You run your fingers through his hair which was slightly damp from practice. You pulled at the ends of it and heard him hum in response, which makes you smile against his lips.

Too soon, you pull away gently and rest your head against his chest. He wraps his arms underneath your shirt and draws circles on your back. "I love you, _____."

"I love you, Tobio."

Maybe it wasn't forever, but with his arms wrapped around you and your head buried his t-shirt, it was true.
