Katniss and Peeta's Life Continued

Chapter 7

Jenny races into our bedroom at around 9:30 A.M. She jumps on the bed and jostles us around.

*THIS IS A COUPLE MONTHS AFTER THE "DROWNING"*

"Mommy....Daddy! It's snowing!" We roll over with misty eyes and stare out the window. The snow in slipping down from the sky and resting softly on the dirt road. We all jump out of bed and rush to the window to see the sparkling snow on the ground. Jenny merrily skips out of the room and slips into her purple heavy snow jacket and hot pink thick snow boots. I giggle as I watch her jump outside in the snow and spin with her head towards the clouds. Peeta and I look at each other and run to get into our snow outfits. I hop into my blue puffy sweatshirt and tight light blue pants. I watch Peeta get into his long-johns as I am tying my shoelaces to my brown heavy boots. Peeta doesn't notice me watching him as he is keeping a sharp eye on Jenny making snow angles. Once we are all ready we both playfully shove each other to see who gets to go first outside. We laugh and push through the front doorway. The air is freezing and I can see my breath. We spend most of our day throwing snowballs, playing games, and building snowmen on the deep snow. I through a snowball at Peeta's arm and race to give him a kiss. He doesn't hesitate to kiss me back. When our lips part I glance at his blond curls and crystal clear eyes. He takes a loose brown wave and tucks it behind my ear. he leans in for another kiss and I go on my tippy-toes to reach it. out of the blue, I hear crunching on the snow. Not the cute little pitter-patter of Jenny's feet, but almost stomps on the softly packed snow. I break from Peeta's kiss and turn to see who it is. I find a familiar man. Tall, straight brown hair, baby blue eyes. Gale. My jaw drops to the floor. Why is he here? "Hi Catnip," Gale says when he reaches me and Peeta. I'm really hoping he did not see us kissing.
"Hi Gale," I answer. My first thought is, Jenny. I forgot to tell Gale about Jenny. To be honest no one knows about Jenny except me, Peeta, Hatmitch, Effie, and the prep team. Nobody on the outside world knows.
"How have you been?" I ask trying to not make things awkward.
"Fine." He is making things so short answered. Why is he doing that? Is he mad at me? Did he see me kissing Peeta and get jealous?
"That's good." I smile trying to comfort him. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Jenny romping through the snow towards us. I get nervous as she comes near.
"Mommy.....who is this guy?" She curiously asks.
"Um......Jenny this Gale....my friend when I was little. Gale......this is Jenny.....my daughter." I introduce. A shiver ripples down my spine like water. Maybe it's the snow. My heart sinks into my stomach.
"Oh....um....hi...Jenny," Gale hesitates.
"This is my mommy and daddy," Jenny introduces. She toddles over to me and Peeta. Peeta and I glance at each other of anxiety. We are both thinking the same thing. What are we supposed to say? I look up a Gale's blue-silver eyes.
"Uhh.....Gale can we talk for a moment?" I ask. I gaze back at Peeta as waiting for a signal of approval. He gives me a slight nod that I almost can't see it. I saunter down the path that is powdered in a layer of snow. He follows quietly behind me. After walking about 20 yards away for Peeta and Jenny, I spin to face Gale. He begins to speak.
"What is going on? I leave for a couple months and everything has changed."
"Let me explain. After you left.....I started spending a lot of time with Peeta-."
"Yeah......a LOT of time it seems," Gale says annoyed.
"You don't understand, Gale! All of this was an accident!" I defend.
"Um.....so you having a baby with Peeta was an accident?"
"Yes it was!"
"What about you getting married?" Gale responds.
"How do you know that?" I ask.
"There is a wedding ring on you're finger!"
"After having Jenny, we kinda had to."
"Why? I came back for you!" Gale says. I am nauseated by his comment. I did have feelings for Gale before, but I love Peeta now.
"I would have been with you.....if you hadn't run off with your girlfriend!"
After the rebellion.....which we won, Gale met Williow Shrader. A lovely lady about 21. She was the daughter of the president of the Peacekeepers. She had long winding blond hair and cute little freckles on her pale skin. To top off the over all perfect, her eyes were a pure brown that reminded me of chocolate. Every time I saw her I was overwhelmed with jealousy. I mean.....I'm not pretty. My hair is almost always so dry and my eyes are no where near as pretty a her's. I guess she had an advantage with working with the Capitol and living in luxury and all. Maybe that's why Gale went with her, because she was "rich." Gale started spending a lot of time with her and after we defeated the Capitol, he decided to stay with her and not return to District 12. I was so upset when he left me in the dust until Peeta kind of put me in a tough spot. That was when I got pregnant with Jenny. It was an accident and honestly was never supposed to happen. I forgot all about Gale when I had Jenny.
"So......are you going to stay with Peeta? Or are you gonna choose me? Make a choice........Catnip."
