A COUPLE YEARS LATER*****
I walk outside to the fresh spring air. Taking in the smell of daisies and primroses. I have a eight year old Jenny in one hand and a healthy Ethan in another. We walk down the beaten path towards the bakery that Peeta stopped by for a morning shift. As I step through the door of the bakery my nose is overwhelmed by the mouthwatering scent of warm freshly baked bread. Peeta is just shutting down shop.
"Are you ready to go?" He asks.
"Yep," I say in a breath. We walk out of the bakery and make our way to a part of the forest. We climb under the fence, which has not been electrified since we took over the Capitol and find the meadow were it is full of fresh green grass and flowers blooming around my feet.
Today Peeta and I decided to show Jenny and Ethan, Prim, my sister. We snake towards the graveyard and search for her tombstone. We find it standing around the old primroses I had left her last time I was there which are starting to droop. I replace the flowers and crouch down to be at the foot of her.
"Mommy who is that?" Jenny asks. Jenny and Ethan know I have a sister, but they don't know she is dead.
"This is your Aunt Prim," I say softly.
"Oh," Ethan peeps.
"She was killed in a bomb explosion years ago," I begin as tears flow out of my eyes. "I couldn't save her." Peeta wraps an arm around me and I rest my head in his shoulder.
"Can she hear me?" Ethan asks.
"She is certainly listening," I say and Ethan nods.
"Aunt Pim, if you can hear me, I wuv you!" Ethan shouts.
"Aunt Prim, I love you too," Jenny says. Peeta and I smile and I rest a hand on the grass. Peeta pats the grass and stands. He scoops up Jenny and Ethan and starts walking down toward the meadow. I sit next to Prim for a moment in silence then speak, "Prim, I know that you are listen somewhere in heaven, and I miss you. I am sorry I couldn't save your life and I can't wait to see you again." I pause a moment as I watch Peeta chase a squealing Jenny and a gigging Ethan. I smile as I whisper, "I love you."
I stand up and join my family knowing that Prim was listening. I look back at her grave because I think I can almost hear her whisper back.....
"I love you too."
