Pretty

This poem is inspired by the movie The Half Of It.

Sometimes I don't want to be labeled as being pretty
It's a double edge sword
Of flattery and insecurity
It forces me look at myself
And scares the hell out of me
To look beyond at the skin reflecting in the mirror in front of me

Protective layers of colorful make up and plastered smile
Mostly fake ones to get on by
The mask that hides what's really inside
Embroiled in silence, waiting for the right moment to arise

The masks I wear differs from day to day
It depends on the situation that comes my way
The ones that makes me confused, scared and angry
The ones that makes me crazy, lonely and ugly
The ones that hides the sunshine that is truly me
The true beauty of my messy complexities
The true beauty that is truly me.
