Lana
"Emily?"
"Hi!"
Emily exclaims as she smiled widely before her smile was wiped away from her face. Stephan's presence had caused the disruption when he appeared and in that instance, sombre clouded her face.
"I... I should come back later."
"No Emily, it's fine. Stephan was just leaving." I call her and glance over my shoulder to Stephan; he gave me a side-ways glance before he nodded her head and then walked past us. The look he gave me felt like as if it was sign indicating that this was not over.
I watch the back of him until he was out of my sight and then release a breath of relief as I close my eyes and squeeze my temples together.
"Hey... are you okay? Is everything alright?" Emily stressed when she reached for my hand and caressed it,
"Yeah... yes. I'm fine! Come on in Emily, it's really nice to have you here." I exclaim before I wrap my arms around her and embrace her, "What brings you here?"
She closes the door behind her and walks in as I welcome her. Had I known that Emily was visiting, I would really have used a lot of my efforts in presenting myself and my home to her because she was a guest. Her spontaneous visit really did catch me off guard so when I walked through the lounge, I felt paranoia crippling in my stomach when I was subconsciously convincing myself that Emily thought she was walking into an absolute dump.
"You have such a beautiful home Lana," she claims as she walks through my lounge, "I like this."
"Thank you." I smile as relief settled in my stomach, feeling some sort of accomplishment of impressing her.
Emily walked further into the lounge and that's when I realised that she was holding a gift bag. My eyes trailed to the bag before it landed on her small stomach and that's when it occurred to me that she was pregnant! How could I be so absent-minded?
"Lana, I apologise to visit spontaneously but I miss you so much. I want to get to know you once again and definitely know your daughter." Emily expresses,
"Emily, you don't have to apologise. I'm actually glad you came, I could really do with some company." I reply as I embrace her, "I'll call her."
I released her and walk towards the staircase before I call out for my daughter.
"Amelia!"
In just a second, Amelia was stepping down the small staircase and then reached me. From the small distance, she already sensed that there was another presence here. A presence she was not familiar with so as soon as she arrived, she held onto my hand and tucked herself behind me. I chuckled when I took her hand and walked towards Emily who was smiling widely down at Amelia.
"Mommy, who is that?" She whispered,
"Baby, this is my very good friend that I met when I used to go to school. She wants to say hi to you so come with me."
I walk over to the couch area and hold Amelia's hand. Amelia is a very shy girl but only for a very short period. Once she senses that it's safe to speak to someone, she easily bonds with them.
I sat opposite Emily while Amelia sat right next to me. I glance at Emily who watched Amelia like she was in love and from that moment, I knew how much of an amazing mom she will be to her child.
