As a large pack we ran out of the lab. I looked around in my rush and saw that we were not all that far from the city. Except the city was in chaos. People were screaming and running down the streets. Large floating....spaceships were zooming across the darkened sky with wide green lights shining down from them.

We watched in fascination and horror as the green light passed over a group of people and turned them in puddles of green liquid. An alarmed screech drew our attention behind us. One of those green lights were approaching us!

With a few howls and squeaks we dashed off into the field.

'The forest!' A voice bellowed through the mind link. With nimble paws I made a sharp turn and sped off to the tree line. More scared and anxious sounds arose from behind me and only served to up my adrenaline, but it was no use. I closed my eyes tight and froze as the green light passed over me. I waited for pain.

But nothing happened.

I watched as the light harmlessly passed over all of us and disappeared into the city. I turned to the other in pure confusion, only to see them in much the same state as me. I shook my head and quickly returned to running to the forest. Quiet steps followed me.

It was strange to run with so many Kaydenstrids. I scanned the pack in front of me, before slowing down to scan the rest. I jumped when I felt something brush my side. I glanced sideways and saw Melissa trying her hardest to keep up. I slowed down more so that she could match my pace more easily. We ended up in the back of the pack when we reached a large clearing a few meters from the tree line.

Pants echoed around the small area as the adrenaline wore off. I sat down close to a tree and Melissa pressed her small head under my paws and hid herself underneath me. I looked down to the youngest of the Kaydenstrids. She was visibly shaking with her tail tucked between her legs and whining in fear.

I felt my heart drop. She wasn't in the lab very long, a few weeks at most and she didn't have a lot of time to process what happened to her. It must have been traumatizing and this attack on the city only worsened it.

My ears perked in alert when footsteps came close to me. I looked up to see Craig and Alex making their way towards me. Their tails and ears were twitching anxiously. Melissa pressed herself further under me. I settled my own tail around her, but failed to stop its twitching.

It was quiet. All that flowed through the mind link was fear, confusion and dazed feelings. My two male friends flopped down in front of me, still tense.

It was rough.

Its short but I'm excited to get the plot rolling.
