My reaction was instantaneous.

The second he swung his leg over my back I bolted. My instincts sprung to life in a whirlwind of raw intent and flung all logic out the backdoor. My body tensed and I leapt over the fence with the power of a hundred men. My mind barely registered how Kaieke's legs squeezed into my sides. The little action seemed to spur my instincts on and I galloped across into the field.

My heart was slamming into my ribs and I impossibly ran faster. My breath rasped into the air. My fur was pricked up, sharp as needles. I desperately grasped at any stray thought for control. Any wisp of awareness.

And surprisingly I found it.

The gentle brush was as soft as silk and just as hard to grip, but I held on tight. I traced it back and found the pressure on my back at the end of it. What was it? That pressure felt almost familiar. Almost like a...a packmate.

Suddenly I was snapped back into reality and found myself racing over the vast fields at impossibly high speeds. My feet barley touched the ground with every step. It was like i was flying over the grass. There was a weight on my back. It didn't feel bad, but comforting.

I steadied my rapid heart and looked back. My eyes widened when i saw that Kaieke was clinging to me. His thighs were squeezing into my sides and his calves were almost completely wrapped around my chest. His hands were fisted into the fur around my neck and balled around the strap.

Then I glanced up to his face.

His eyes were blown wide and shining with something ive never seen on a Kymari before. Kaieke was amazed. Amazed. Not wary of the high speeds or curious about my strength like a Kymari would - should - be in this situation. He looked down and caught my eye and a pearly grin grew over his lips.

This felt right.

My heart picked up its pace and I looked back in front of me. Yes, this felt right. It felt like something I never knew I was missing slotted into place. The world around me looked brighter, smelled better and I felt more free than I've ever felt before.

And the best of it all was that I could tell Kaieke felt exactly the same. It was almost like I could read his thoughts and he could read mine. I was sharing my freedom and its the most amazing feeling in the world. Kaieke seemed to study me for a minute, before he sat up straight and tugged on the strap whilst leaning left.

My body understood and easily followed what he was asking. I pressed my front right claws into the ground and pushed with my back legs to spin around and race back over the way we came. My tongue flopped out of my snout and a howl ripped from my throat. Kaieke laughed and let out an off tone howl of his own.

My chest warmed with elated emotions. I could see the house and ring come back into view. I could already tell what Kaieke wanted with the way he tightened his legs and leaned forward. I sped up as much as I dared and leapt over the fence. My powerful muscles effortlessly carried us over the metal and I stuck the landing.

I trotted to slow my momentum before I stopped fully. Both Kaieke and I were breathing hard as he pressed his face into the back off my neck. I felt him huff out a quiet laugh and my chest rumbled in turn with a pleased purr.

My attention was diverted to Varf who was staring with wide eyes and raise brows.

"That," He blinked and smiled. "was not what I was expecting."

You think you're surprised? I want to see your reaction if you were in my position.

Kaieke laughed and slid off of my back. I missed his weight almost immediately. He ran his hand over my back as I sat down to try and calm myself from the adrenaline high.

"Also, The Elder will arrive at noon."

Oh this can only go well.

Turns out noon arrived much faster than any of us expected. The Elder walked around the side of the house and settled on the porch's plush chairs. Kaieke nodded in greeting and sat down opposite of the Elder. The atmosphere turned serious and the air seemed to settled.

"From your reports, it seems that you and Annebelle have established a stable bond." The Elder started and Kaieke nodded in acknowledgement. "We have decided what your mission will be." Kaieke sucked in a deep breath and squared his shoulders more. "You and Annebelle are required to take out the parasite known as the Tokamate."

Wait, parasite?

"The world's health has been decreasing at a rapid pace and more Kymari have fallen ill. At this point the new generations will not last to carry on our species."

What the in the name of Yoda is going on?

"And right now, Kaieke," The Elder leant forward and stared the black-eyed alien in the eyes. "You and Annebelle are our only hope at survival."
