India POV
It was now around 4 o'clock in the morning, and I was getting ready to execute my escape plan. I had packed up some of Ava's clothes in her diaper bag, along with some other essentials. I wasn't worried about myself as much I as was her. I had some extra pairs of clothes in my car for when I have multiple castings, go-sees or events in one day. My priority was making sure she had everything she needed.
I collected Ava out of the crib strapping her into the baby carrier I wore around my torso. I needed my hands to be free for this to work. Luckily, her diaper bag also doubles as my purse, the essence of Mom Life, so my keys, wallet, etc were already in there.
I did a final check, making sure I had my phone and some cash on me before opening the window. I had already dug out the fire escape ladder from Ava's closet. There's one in her room and mine, for emergency purposes. I think this constitutes as an emergency. Leaning out of the second story window I draped the ladder down the side of my roof. I hooked the top of it to the sides of the window frame to keep it stable, before climbing out of the window.
The only sad part about this plan is I can't bring Noodle. I don't plan on abandoning my dog, I'll just send someone to pick him up in the morning. After Rio has inevitably left to go look for me. Right now the priority is getting Avalon far away from her father as humanely possible.
I shimmed down the ladder, which was harder than I expected with this diaper bagging weighing on my a shoulder. Once my feet successfully touched down in the driveway, I hurried to unlock the car. Bunny slippers on my feet, in nothing but an oversized t-shirt, I can only imagine what I must looked like. I manually unlocked as not to take the chance of the lights and noises waking up Rio. I walked around to the back seat, putting the diaper bag into the car and unstrapping Av from her carrier to buckle her into her car seat.
"There you go, pumpkin." I whispered, kissing her forehead as I got her situated. I gently shut the door, scampering around to the driver's side. Rushing to get into the car and lock the doors.
As soon as the car turned on and the engine turned over, I saw bright headlights shiny through my windshield. Rio's G-Wagon roared to life, quickly pulling in front of my driveway, boxing me in.
What the fuck?
Rio is still inside, asleep. I checked before I left. Two big, burly men hopped out the vehicle, guns drawn pointing at my car. Shit, this motherfucker came prepared. I beat my arms against the leather steering wheel in rage. I was so close. So close. I buried my head inside of my arms, feeling like a failure. Because I am one, I've failed my child.
I glanced at Avalon through my rearview mirror, my precious little girl. She deserves better than this.
It didn't take long for the men, to page, call, telepathically send a message to Rio... Whatever it is they do. About 60 seconds later he was standing in front of my car.
