India

I stared out of the window, still refusing to look at Rio. As advised I did take the deal and we paraded in front of the cameras as if we were one big happy family. The only small silver-lining was the fact that Rio agreed not to speak, leaving it to me to fence all of the questions. He hasn't been through a single day of media training in his life (yes, that's a thing.) and I was not going to let him ruin all of my life's work with some dumbass, snide remark.

"You know, I didn't do it to hurt you." Rio attempted to turn my chin towards him using his index finger but I smacked his hands away.

"There are easier methods of clout-chasing. Ones that don't involve blackmail and extortion."

My little remark had obviously gotten to him. He pressed his tongue to the rough of his mouth, letting out a humorless chuckle. He opened his mouth as though he was going to say something but then closed it, shaking his head.

"I don't want to fight with you. It's been a long day." Rio ran a hand over the back of his head. "Just tell me what I can do to make it up to you."

"Nothing." I respond honestly.

He doesn't have a time machine. He can't go back and rewrite my life so that I never would have met him. Too much has transpired, there is no making up. The only thing that's left is to somehow make cope or avoid everything through denial.

Rio runs a hand over the back of his head before pulling over off to the side of the road. He dug his phone out of his pocket seeming to type something in on it then handed the phone to me.

"What am I supposed to do with this?" I glanced down at the screen, a picture of a small brown horse with white patches was on it.

"That's for Avalon, her name is Peanut Butter."

"Avalon doesn't need another pet, let alone a pony." I rolled my eyes referring to Noodle. He's technically my dog, but mostly Ava's if I'm being honest. He likes her more than me, probably because she's a cute little baby.

"Peanut Butter isn't a pony, she's a baby horse. A pony is something totally different. Anyways, she's not a pet. It's so she can learn how to ride her- you know like an equestrian?"

I just blinked not understanding where he was going with this. "She's not even two yet, this all feels a little premature. We don't even know what her interests are yet."
