India POV
I decided to use this opportunity effectively. Rio was gone but those two thugs were still sitting outside my house. So leaving what out of the question but I could make sure that they didn't get back in.
I knew I needed to work fast so I took of towards my garage, grabbing the few power tools I had. Which consisted of an electric drill and a hammer. I also grabbed a few spare wooden planks I had left over from when I put Avalon's nursery together. I couldn't figure out what those pieces connected to.
The good news is everything turned out okay, and now they'll come in handy. I ran back into the house with the items tucked under my arms. Okay, think India. I was in love with a criminal, I had to have learned something.
I could board up the front door but that would be stupid. There's too many alternative points of entry. I need to barricade myself inside of a room in the house. Rio is automatically going to assume that whatever room I'm in, Ava is in as well. I need to separate us, he won't be expecting that.
I ran up the stairs and dropped all of the materials on the bathroom floor, since it's the room that's farthest from the nursery. The best hiding places are the most obvious ones. Those are always the ones everyone assumes you'll be too smart to use. That's where I'll put Avalon.
Running back down the stairs, I collected Avalon and Noodle in my arms. I didn't know when Rio would be back, it felt like I was running a marathon as I carried them to the nursery. My heart was beating out of my chest as I googled how to quickly sound proof a room. Use heavy blankets and curtains.
I can do that. I gave Avalon her iPad so she could watch cartoons and keep still as I continued with my work. I grabbed every spare blanket I could find in the house, even stripping my own bed then returned to the nursery. I tacked the blankets up on the walls in front of the windows and the door, basically the places where sound can escape. I even lined the bottom of her door with towels, so sound won't slip out from under there.
Getting Avalon and Noodle situated was the easiest part of this process. I walked out of the nursery closing the door behind me. They'll be fine. I'd die before I let something happen to her.
I ran down the hallway to the bathroom, closing the door. Locking myself inside. I quickly began to work using the drill to screw the wooden planks across the door as a means of barricading it. After I felt confident in my work, I climbed into the bathtub. For some reason that's where you're supposed to go during emergencies, earthquakes, shoot-outs, everyone says to get into the bath tub.
All I could do now was wait and hope for the best.
It took maybe all of ten minutes for Rio to return.. I could hear things breaking and crashing downstairs, as he yelled instructions to his workers.
"Find them. Take this whole motherfucking house apart if you have to." I've never heard him so angry before. Shit, what have I done? What's gonna happen if he finds me?
