What do you like most from your work? The money? The work? The experience? The facilities? I guess most of us will have the same answer, the money. Why do we work? It's because we have mouth to feed on, need a place to live in, and a dream to fulfill. When are we going to stop working? After we achieve our goal, or after we retire, or until we cannot even walk?
To me, my job was a dream come true. I got a job from a reputable and huge company that owned 56 shops, 34 publishing buildings, 1 local TV station, 1 radio channel, and 1 website. When I told my mom that I was hired by Tome Publishing, she was really happy. She smiled ear to ear for a few days. She boasted about it to our neighbours, saying that a student like me got hired by a famous firm was a stroke of fortune to our family. When she mentioned my salary to all people who listened to her, their eyes were wide awake. It was not much, but for a new employer who hadn't graduated yet, the number was quite amazing. The number hid the fact that I was a senior college who still struggled to graduate.
I went to work on my first day of working wearing my laced brown boots, a pair of brown pants, and short sleeved red blouse. I also wore my watch, a gift from my sister, a black Alexandre Christie. I was not from a rich family but I know a little about things and prices. Well, it must be the first thing came to my mind when I saw a person, the price of what (s)he wears. I guess it was all because of money. We worked hard in order to buy things for ourselves to look good from top to toe.
The second time I was in the company, I felt something different. I was nervous, not because I was afraid, but because I was excited. I never worked in a company before, never had an experience before, never had a boss before, now I had it all. It thrilled me a little.
I went to the receptionist desk again to meet... who was it again? The lady who wore Victoria Secret Tease Dreamer. When I saw her, I immediately smiled. She replied with a smile too.
"Hello, good morning," she said. I made a glance look at her nametag, Adrianna.
"Hello, good morning. Do you remember me?" I asked shyly.
Adrianna nodded, "of course. Ms Danica Vinci, you are to see Mr Hendrawan. Please follow me."
I followed her to the same direction, to the lift we took the previous time.
"Mr Hendrawan is on the fifth floor. Turn left then turn right after exiting the lift. She pressed the red button.
"Who is he, if I may know?" I asked.
"He is our human resource department team member. The one who supposed to interview you," she answered.
I 'smelled' something suspicious here. "Do you... happen to know why Mr Desmond was the one who interviewed me?" I asked her with a normal tone, trying not to look too curious. We barely knew each other, I did not want her to be scared of me.
Adrianna took out her phone from her pocket. This day she was still wearing the same perfume but different outfit. She looked more stunning in her white silk chiffon dress. She must put a lot of thought in thinking what to wear every day as she worked on the front office.
"I'm not really sure about that, maybe because you are in his team," answered her. She took the call and waited until the lift door opened to ask me to go to Mr Hendrawan's office by myself. Before the lift door closed, Adrianna turned her back and walked away.
Mr Hendrawan's room located exactly on the place Adrianna mentioned. It was not difficult to find because this was the only room different from the other rooms. The other rooms were meeting rooms and library. I bet this was the only room with a human being inside. Scary. He lived in the only floor for him? I wonder what kind of person he must be. He might be a man around forty or fifty, bald with long beard, smelled like old person, dull and lonely. Just hoped that he would be a bit nice. I knocked the door.
