What is a curse? What is a destiny? The title of this chapter might indicate a destiny between people, on the contrary, I like to speak about the curse, instead. Not a superstition just like Tessa mentioned before every time she sat in front of our rented house when she missed her boyfriend, but a curse unbroken and unreversed. So, what is a curse actually? According to dictionary, a curse means the cause of great harm, evil, or misfortune. What causes it? What are involved? Who has ever experienced it? How does it feel to be cursed?
The first curse had been shared before in this book. No one realized it when it happened and we have yet to expect its coming. It would happen again, this time in different form to different people, thus, if you are not ready, it will hit you hardly. Unfortunately, I won't tell you now. You can see it for yourself later.
Even though I lived with Tessa, we basically met only in the evening when we arrived at our rented house after a long day working. Sometimes after working so hard, I spent only one hour with her, just to catch up up with things.
"Can you make me tea? Ugh, my shoulder feels sore and my leg is stiff. I think I'm aging faster. Those kids, they really wanna kill me. They said we stay young when we work with children, but I'm aging every second," said Tessa while laying on the couch. Her phone was ringing but she seemed not to be bothered by it.
I went to the kitchen and took two white cups from the shelf. "The payment is huge, that's why you need to hang on it," I reminded her. Well, it was her words, she taught me to say it to her every time she complained about her job
"Ah, you're right," she nodded. Tessa put her palm on her forehead and pressed her lips. Her phone was still ringing.
I took one spoon of sugar and poured it to the cup. "Won't you take the call?"
"It'll eventually stop," whispered her.
I put a bag of chamomile tea to one cup and poured hot water to both cups. Tessa preferred strong dark red tea while I prefer a light tea, usually after once extracted. The smell of calming chamomile tea filled the whole room, soothed all the individuals who were tired of works. I served the tea on the coffee table in front of Tessa who was still laying comfortably on the couch, then went to shower. Tessa had this habit of doing something else before taking a shower after arriving at home. I was the opposite for I couldn't stand on sweat and bad body odor.
I brushed my hair with a towel and walked to the living room, found Tessa was sleeping with her phone was still ringing. Who would be so persistent calling her when she didn't want to take it? I saw the caller, it was her mom. Why didn't she take it? My mom would be so worried if I didn't answer her call, so does other parents I assumed. I decided to take the call.
"Hello Mrs Adrianna, this is Danica's speaking," I answered the call while brushing my wet hair.
"Oh... Hi Danica, can I speak to Tessa?" asked Mrs Adrianna. Her tone was rather annoyed cause someone else picked up her daughter call.
"I'm afraid you can't. She's sleeping now. I'll deliver your message to her," I answered.
There was a silent for a while on the phone before Mrs Adrianna sighed and said, "just tell her to answer my call."
"Okay, I'll tell her," I nodded.
"Thank you, Danica."
What could be the best reason for a daughter not picking up her mom's call? My mom would give me a death sentence if I ever ignored her call. I relayed Tessa's mom message soon after she woke up, but her face looked so blunt and plain as if there's nothing special about it. I knew Tessa was hiding something from me. As much as I wished she would tell me, I appreciated on how much she wanted to keep it personal.
