Camelot, somewhere in the early 6th century

2 years earlier...

"Look! He's here! Inform the queen!" A shout rang out at the entrance of Camelot's castle. This one shout, created more yells and shouts from within the castle itself.

The black haired figure walked up to the castle. He could hear the yells of the guards already. In no time at all, he was met by two knights.

"Leon, Percival," The man greeted.

"Merlin," The knights responded, "where's Arthur? Wasn't he with you?"

The young warlock's face fell at the mention of the once and future king. No words were needed for the two knights to understand. Merlin looked down at the ground, trying to hide the tears that were once again threatening to fall.

"Where's Gaius?" Merlin asked. Gaius was the only person he wanted to see right now. His mentor had always been the one he went to for advice on basically anything. And since The Great Dragon, Kilgharrah, was on the verge of death, Merlin didn't want to bother him.

The two knights wordlessly brought Merlin to where the court physician was. The trio walked inside the castle and eventually reached a large room where too many hurt knights were laid out. Gaius was doing his best to heal everyone he could. So many had already died from wounds.

The old physician spotted his ward and his face filled with relief. "Merlin," he breathed, making his way over to him. The two reunited with a hug before Gaius pulled back. "Where's Arthur?" The question was asked once again.

Merlin looked down at the ground. "I tried, Gaius. I really tried. But I was too slow... I couldn't bring him to the one place that could heal him in time... I-I failed."

Gaius embraced Merlin in another hug. "It's not your fault, my boy. It was his destiny to go out like that. You have done all that you could and you've done it so well."

As Gaius spoke, Merlin looked over his mentor's shoulder at Leon, who was reassuring a sad-looking Percival. When Merlin noticed who Percival was upset about, he retracted from Gaius and ran over.

Merlin looked down at Gwaine, shocked. Gaius followed Merlin over to Gwaine and felt his wrist for a pulse. Gaius looked up at Percival, "he's still here. But just barely."

"What happened?" Merlin asked, his voice quiet. Percival answered, "Morgana tortured him for answers. She went too far with it..."

The young warlock's eyes snapped to Gaius and Gaius could easily tell what he was thinking. Gaius frowned slightly and turned to the two knights. "Go get Gwen and bring her down here. I think it would be best if she heard everything from Merlin," Gaius ordered.

Obeying, the two knights left to fetch their queen. Once they were gone, Gaius turned to Merlin. Merlin immediately started whispering what he had to say.

"I need to try," Merlin whispered, determined, "he's not dead yet, I have to heal him. I wasn't able to save Arthur but I want to try to save Gwaine. Gaius, please."

Gaius looked sadly at his ward. After a moment of silence, Gaius looked around. Everyone seemed distracted or unconscious. "Do it quickly, Merlin," he said, knowing that if he didn't try, Merlin would be even more devastated.

"Quœd sulus 'árx quœquē eł perdįdit ilłüm šäna eamém," Merlin whispered while leaning closer to Gwaine's unconscious form. Merlin's blue eyes flashed gold and Merlin leaned back.
