Dean's hands roll over each other as he makes a sharp left turn. As the tires grip onto the snowy gravel, Jackie is at a loss as to where they were. She trusted that Dean knew where he was going.
"Sam," Jackie says breathlessly, looking at Dean as he drives. Her mind is restless, wanting to know so much from him but hardly knowing what to ask. "He's okay?"
She recieves a smile from Dean, and as he glances over, he states, "Who do you think the tech-savy genius is who cracked you out of Alcatraz?"
Of course, she thinks. Should have known.
"Good," Jackie sighs in relief. "Good. And Bobby? He's alright?" Her heart aches just thinking of what Bobby had to have been going through during these last few months.
This time, Dean can hardly smile. "He'll be better when he sees you, believe me."
Jackie just nods, understanding what he was saying. She knew none of this had been easy for anyone, and until now, it was difficult for her to think of anyone else having to live through the hell she had. It was selfish, but she hardly knew what to think for herself.
Dean notices Jackie's tense state. She was quiet and observant, keeping mostly to herself physically and mentally. He couldn't blame her, though; the conflicts running through her mind were likely similar to those he had experienced for himself before. And just as he used to be, Jackie didn't know how to deal with those thoughts just yet.
He clears his throat, gaining her attention once again.
"Most importantly," Dean begins with a shrug, "Zeke's alright. He may have put on a few pounds- he really likes bacon- but he's good and safe."
Jackie feels a lightness in her heart at the news. It had been too long since she had seen her last bit of family, and she had only hoped he was alright. "Thank you," she says in relief. This time, her smile doesn't fade.
She couldn't wait to see the cold-nosed, warm-hearted dog once again.
Dean drives for another half hour before the impala comes upon a secluded structure. The old paved road arrives at an end, giving way to a brick-clad building. Through many bare, snowy trees and over a slight, dirty hill, she sees windows peeking out of the siding. The dark paneling only gave the building even more age.
She could only stare at the large structure, certainly confused at its presence. It seemed completely out of place, and rang no bell of recognition in her mind. She turns slowly to Dean.
"What is this place?"
As he brings the impala to an idle directly in front of a wide steel door, he explains. "Turns out there's more to this hunting stuff than our parents led on."
When she doesn't reply, he elaborates, putting the car in park. "The Winchesters haven't always been hunters. They used to be Men of Letters, people who researched the supernatural. This is their bunker."
As he gestures over her shoulder at the steel door, she only draws blank at what that meant for the building in front of them.
"So its like... a man-cave?"
Dean smirks, letting out a laugh that he can't seem to suppress. "Not quite."
Holding up a hand brielfly, Dean montions for Jackie to stay where she is. "Sit tight, I'll be right back.
She watches as Dean stands up out of the car and moves towards the door in front of them. As he reaches down and fiddles with a bolted lock on the door, she realizes the entrance must be to a garage. This is found to be true to her once the door begins rolling upwards, giving way to a surprisingly well-lit area.
