The day before Christmas Eve was a hectic one. Azalea picked me up in her BMW and took me to this big coffee shop that was packed with people.
"Hey, guys." I turn to see Jenny come next to us and hand us all coffee mugs. I can tell immediately that she remembered to get me hot cocoa and not coffee. We cram ourselves onto a high table near the front. I look around to see that there's also a stage here for bands to play.
"Why are we here?" I ask Azalea and Jenny, but they just smile.
"You'll see," Azalea smirks at me. I roll my eyes in annoyance and take a sip of hot cocoa.
All of the sudden I hear some cheers and one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard floods my ears as a piano plays in the background.
Crowded hallways are the loneliest places
For outcasts and rebels
And just anyone who dares to be different
And you've been trying for so long
To find out where your place is
But in their narrow minds
There's no room for anyone who dares to do something different
Oh, but listen for a minute
I turn around to look up at the stage and I lose my breath.
Alex stands there playing the piano and staring right at me; singing to me. There's no one else on the stage, and to me there is no one else in the room. Just me and him.
Trust the one who's been where you are wishing all it was was
Sticks and stones
Yeah those words cut deep but they don't mean you're all alone
And you're not invisible
Hear me out
There's so much more to life than what you're feeling now
Someday you'll look back on all these days
And all this pain is gonna be
Invisible
I can tell how much he wants me to not only hear the lyrics, but follow them. To trust him. To trust him, who has been there for me all along.
He's telling me I'm not invisible and this pain will pass some day.
So your confidence is quiet
To them quiet looks like weakness
But you don't have to fight it
'Causse you're strong enough to win without a war
Every heart has a rhythm
Let yours beat out so loudly
That everyone can hear it
Yeah, I promise you don't need to hide it anymore
Oh, and never be afraid of doing something different
Dare to be something moreHe goes back into the chorus and a feel a single tear run down my cheek at his words and the melody of the song. It hits me right in the gut with meaning. He finally finishes the song and the whole crowd bursts into applause.
