- Change -

I stared at the empty bed where me and Zoe would sleep. The covers were still in the exact same position from when she last slept there. I hadn't dared to move them in fear of destroying the last memory of her in the flat. A blanket on the sofa was my replacement.

The landline phone rang. I rushed to the hallway and picked up the phone.

"Hello," said the person down the line. The familiar tone of my mums voice echoed through my head. I couldn't deal with her right now. Not now.

"Yes mum," I groaned. She must've been so shocked by my extremely low tone.

"Alfred, are you okay?" She gasped.

"If slapping your girlfriend by accident and then having her fall off a pier causing her to be in hospital for two weeks which then results in her moving out, classes as not okay then I guess I'm not." I said, out of breath by my sudden out burst. The line went dead. I guess my mum wasn't in the mood for sarcasm. I threw the receiver to the ground, taking the whole handset with it. I stood in the hallway, staring at the broken pile of what was once the phone. It reminded me of myself. Broken. Shattered. In pieces. I walked into the kitchen and placed my head in my hands. What was I going to do with myself. I was pushing everyone I loved away. Everyone. I looked over to the microwave. The time on it said 2.37am. It was a stupid idea, but I needed Zoe. She was the thing that caused this, she was the thing that was going to fix it.

After texting Zoe multiple times she finally replied.

Z- on my way x
A- ty x
Z- be there in 10?x
A- I need you now..x
Z- Patience x

I put my phone down on the coffee table and waited. I stood in the doorway of the kitchen, staring at the microwave clock. Counting down the minutes.

2.42am, 2.43am, 2.44am, 2.45am, 2.46am, 2.47am, 2.48am, 2.49am, 2.50am, 2.51am, 2.52am...

The doorbell rang at exactly the same time the clock reached 2.52am. I skidded through my living room all the way to the hall. I unlocked the door and didn't bother looking who was my visitor. I pulled them into a hug, squeezing them as tight as possible. I heard a little giggle bounce onto my chest. I let go, sending Zoe almost flying backwards. She laughed and walked into the hallway, closing the door behind her. I placed my hands on her waist and picked her up, causing her to giggle even more. I threw her down on the sofa and jumped on top placing tiny kisses on her neck and cheeks.

"Alfie," I heard her laugh. Being with Zoe made me feels so alive. She was the energy inside of me.

"Zoe, please come back. I miss you," I blurted out. Wrong time Alfie. Fucking wrong time.

"Alfie, you know I can't, I pay rent with Gabby now," she moaned.

"If you move back, I'll pay all of the rent," I smirked, trying to negotiate terms with her.

"Alfie you can't bribe me with free rent, I can still visit you," she said smiling. My body was still pressed up against hers. I leant in and took her lips by surprise, kissing them gently. She giggled again.

"How often will you visit?" I pouted, kissing her once more.

"Never!" She screamed, managing to wriggle from underneath my weight. She threw her coat and bag on the floor and ran into my bedroom.

"Zoe, I'm taking this as an invitation," I teased, getting off the sofa myself.

"Well then, Mr.Deyes," she shouted from inside the bedroom. "Your invited to join me here tonight in this bedroom for a night of fun and games," she laughed, mocking a posh accent.

"Fun and games sounds good to me," I laughed, running in after her and shutting the door. I told you this girl could change me.
