John's POV
It was six AM. I had just put on my uniform and was about to walk out of the door when I heard a loud banging on the front door.

I grumbled and opened the front door.

I saw my friend, Gary, about to bang on the door again, but he stopped himself. Soon he was just standing there and looking frantic about something.

"What is it, Gary?" I asked as I yawned.

"There's been another kill! Come on, I'll take you to it!" Gary said as he ran to his car.

I ran after him, but I ran to my own car instead. Once I started up my car, I heard Gary start up his car. He began to drive away.

I backed out of my driveway and began to follow him like he told me to.

We were driven through our familiar little town. A little ways out of it, Gary parked his car. I was confused as I just stayed in my car.

He walked over to my car and I rolled down my window.

"The kill's in this forest. It's near a river. Get out of your car and we can search for it together." He said.

I didn't say a word, parked my car, got out of it, and locked it.

Gary and I walked into the small forest together.

"You search over there. I'll search over here." I said. Gary ran off and began to search his side while I searched mine.

After a while of searching on my side, I finally noticed a little girl. She had something folded next to her, which I assumed was a hoodie, and some blood around her on the ground and clothes.

"Hey, what happened here?" I asked her.

No response.

"Hello?"

No response.

"Guess she fell asleep sitting up or something. Something seems very fishy, though." I thought as I began walking closer to the girl.

Mainly because her eyes were open.

"Hey! Hey, did you find anything!? I found nothing on my side." Gary said from behind me.

I turned around and pointed to the girl.

"Nothin' here, but I found this little girl. She hasn't said anything when I asked her questions, though." I said.

Gary looked at the little girl and looked at me.

"Maybe you should shake her. She's probably asleep." He said.

"With her eyes open?"

"Hey, it could happen!"

I guess he was right.

I slowly walked over to her and shook her shoulder.

I wasn't expecting what would happen next.

The little girl's head came off her neck and rolled to her side. I just stood there and blinked, clearly astonished at what I just saw.

"AAAAHHHHH!!!!! HER HEAD WAS RIPPED OFF!" Gary said as he grabbed my shoulders and hid behind me.

"She's dead." I responded.

"I know, but-"

"My wife ironed this shirt for me this morning. Get off or I'll dunk your head in the river, Gary." I said.

Gary immediately got off me and smoothed down the sides of the shirt he had gripped onto. I just sighed and rubbed his head and looked to my right side.
