EPISODE XVIII.

[a broken promise]

The next day, Duchess found herself with Kie at Heyward's, helping JJ and Pope with some work.

"Don't let it get in your head bro," JJ said to Pope, "There's three of them and two of us. That's some typical Kook shit right there."

"Hell yeah," Kie agreed.

"What was your thought process, using your head," JJ asked.

"I don't know man. I just kind of acted off instinct," Pope replied," I was a cornered animal."

"I knew there was a little badass in you somewhere," Duchess commented.

"Hey Pope," Heyward yelled," Someone's here to see you."

The Pogues all looked up from what they were doing to see the deputy from that day on the marsh walk in. Immediately, Duchess' gut twisted with nerves.

"Evening officer," Pope stammered. Duchess shot a quick glance to JJ. They know, her look conveyed. JJ just shook his head as if to say, No, no way.

But JJ could not be any more incorrect. "I have an arrest warrant for felony destruction of property," The police officer stating, reaching for his handcuffs.

Pope looked at JJ, who mouthed 'Deny, deny, deny.'

"Keep your hands on the counter where I can see them."

"Whoah," Heyward said," Shoupe, what'd he do?"

"Take a look at the warrant," Officer Shoupe said rudely.

"You're arresting him," Kie asked. She was the most confused out of all of them. JJ, Pope, and Duchess had still kept the secret of what he did.

"You're just arresting my boy," Heyward said, hurt and confusing twisting through every word.

"You can't just arrest him without telling us why," Duchess yelled. Suddenly, she was having flashbacks to when her life changed forever.

A knock on the door.

Two police officers.

"Is your dad home, sweetheart?"

"What do you need my dad for?"

"Answer the question!"

The police officers charging through the apartment.
