Thomas paced nervously in his office. On paper, everything was ready, but was he ready? He thought he knew how the night would go, just like everyone else. Boy were they wrong.
Patton arrived first. After everyone properly greeted the king, he watched as his siblings went off to chat. Oh, how he wished he could join them, but he had to stay waiting for the next prince.
It wasn't too long till Logan entered the room. To ease the boredom the boys conversed. Logan carefully looked at the boy next to him; he noticed his thousands of light freckles, the way the light hit his hair, and the glisten in his eyes. The topic evolved into astronomy. Patton didn't know much in this area, but he didn't care. He felt as if he could listen to Logan for hours.
Roman and Remus came next. Naturally, the parents made it so two awkward conversations were being held by Roman and Logan along with Remus and Patton. Some awkward silences later, Janus and his family entered. Patton took the distraction as an excuse to steal Logan and start another successful conversation. Janus, Roman, and Remus talked for a couple of minutes. Roman had never seen anyone giggle at Remus' jokes like Janus before, he made a note to remember that. Virgil came and kept quiet. The dinner began.
Logan and Patton were pleasantly surprised to find they were sitting next to each other. Remus continued to talk to Janus. Normally people would shut him up and tell him to be quiet, but this time, he was allowed to talk. Janus gave a few words here and there, he wasn't shy, but he just preferred to listen to Remus's voice. He spoke with so much passion and meaning, it was almost endearing.
With no one else to converse with, Roman turned to Virgil. He looked stunning, his dark brown eyes, his flushed cheeks contrasting with his pale skin, his messy yet perfect hair swooping over his right eye, Roman loved it all. He decided to start up a conversation, much to Virgil's dismay.
Except something was different this time. He had never enjoyed social events and everything that came with them. He much preferred alone time. But with Roman it was different. Sure, Roman carried the conversation, but Virgil did pipe up occasionally. He carefully examined Roman's eyes. Something about them was just comforting.
Thomas saw this all unfold. He gave a slight smile, then remembered the other queens and kings in the room. One look at them and it could be seen they were all not happy, well most. Patton's moms were happy, but that was just a usual.
As dessert was served, the princes continued to get deeper into conversation.
