I start to open my eyes, and everything looks so blurry. As I keep my eyes open a bit longer I realize Kartik is standing next to my hospital bed. I instantly feel the dryness in my mouth and want water. As I begin to regain each sense I suddenly feel a piercing pain in my ankle.

"AH!" I shriek in pain.

"Naira! Are you okay?" Kartik asks terrified. "Nurse Priya! Dr. Aman!" Kartik calls out for them. A full team comes rushing in pain. I keep writhing in pain.

"Increase her dosage of painkiller." I hear Doctor Aman calmly tell Nurse Priya, as Nurse Priya quickly injects a medication in my IV.

"Doctor, what's wrong with her?" I can hear the urgency in Kartik's voice.

"Don't worry Mr. Goenka. This is normal. I told you the pain would be prevalent in the first two to three days post-op, but it will gradually decrease overtime. She just got up and is experiencing that pain now." I can feel my medication start to kick in. I instantly feel loopy and sleepy. "It's clear that Naira's discomfort is already going down with the administration of the painkiller. I'll be sending you home with hydrocodone-acetaminophen tablets to help her manage the pain. The first few days will be tough, but I ensure you that her pain will go down with each passing day." I see her smile and notice Kartik visibly relax. I grab Kartik's hand.

"Come here Mendak!" He looks at Dr. Aman and Nurse Priya out of embarrassment.

"Haha this is normal. The medications are opioids so it gives that intoxicating foggy feeling. I'll get her discharge papers ready which will provide what diet she's allowed to have for right now along with medication and post-op care information." Nurse Priya tells Kartik.

"Alright Naira, I'll see you in a week to check-up on how your incision is doing, okay? I want you to relax and focus on getting better. I can see you're in great hands." Dr. Aman tells me with a wholesome smile on her face as she gently squeezes my hand right before leaving. I see that Nurse Priya is looking over at Kartik so I grab his hand and pull him down to me. I then wrap my arms around his neck and give him a hug.

"Naira-"

"What Kartik!" His eyes expand with fear.

"Nothing!"

"I'll go get her a wheelchair Kartik," Nurse Priya says as she leaves.

"So you're on first name basis with her?" Kartik looks confused and then has a smirk on his face.

"Is my sherni jealous?" I roll my eyes and let go of him. Just then both of our dads walk in.

"Princess, how are you feeling?"

"I loveeeee you Papaaaaaa." I can't decipher what Kartik is saying, but he says something to Papa which makes him laugh. I try to keep my eyes open, but I lose my battle with sleep. When I open my eyes again I arrive home. The painkillers are starting to wear off because my ankle and leg begin to throb from pain.

"Naira, I just have to lift you up and put you in the wheelchair." I nod and as Kartik lifts me I try to hold in my scream. He freezes and looks at me immediately.

"Please put me down quickly it's hurting a lot." Any sort of touch on any part of my leg hurts. I try to hide the pain, but I simply can't right now. The entire family sees how much pain I'm in and instantly get scared.

"Kittu, take Naira to your room right now. She needs to rest up." I look at all of the stairs and almost start to cry.

"Actually Dadi, why don't we feed Naira and give her her painkiller before going up the stairs. She's in a lot of pain, and I don't think she'll be able to tolerate me lifting her up right now," Kartik says.
