"I- I don't und-" As I faltered, he put his finger to my lips to quiet me.
"Shhh, we don't want to give ourselves away, do we?" The blue-eyed man whispered to me with a smile.
"But who are you? Why-"
"Your soulmate, obviously," he laughed with a smirk.
Blue eyes removed his hands from my shoulders, and I immediately missed the warmth they brought me. It was short-lived however as he dropped them to my waist and motioned towards the dance floor,
"Let us dance."
As we glided onto the dance floor, the butterflies in my stomach began to flutter. To say I was nervous was an understatement. All the thoughts of "Does he think I'm beautiful?" "Does he like me?" " Does he want me?" were running through my head. Here I was worried if this man liked me and I hardly know who he is. I look up at Blue Eyes and admire his features. His chiseled jawline speckled with stumble from his 5 o'clock shadow. Chocolate colored hair was neatly combed into place except for a few strands that fell loose against his forehead. His wearing the same standard issue white suit that the other men are required to wear. We fall into step with the beat of the music.
"Its Elijah, in case you were wondering," he smirked, breaking me out of my trance.
"Iris."
"Your name is just as beautiful as you, Iris."
Hearing how Elijah says, my name sends a shiver down my spine. I hardly know this man, and I'm falling for him, hard. The song finally ends, and we retreat to a corner away from the others. As I place my arm in his a sense of fear overcomes me, something isn't right.
"How long have you had the, uh-" I ask him, motioning towards my eyes.
"Oh, the eye color? It started about four years ago when I was 17."
Startled, I whisper to him, "Wait, you're 21? How are we-how are you-Who, are you?"
No one ever has a soul mate this much older than them. Let alone get away with being over 19 and not being taken to The Asylum. Something is very wrong here. Suddenly I feel the eyes of someone on the two of us just like I felt when I first arrived.
"Elijah, I think we are being watched. What's going on?"
His eyes begin to scan the crowd and stop on a man just a few feet away from us. Clearly he is not a guard as he is wearing white but I've seen this man before. I just can't place him at the moment.
"They've found us, we need to get out of here. Just follow my lead." Elijahs worried tone does nothing to calm my nerves.
"I'm not following you anywhere. Whatever is going on, you can tell me right here, right now." I hiss as I cross my arms over my chest.
"Iris, please, there's no time to explain. You have to trust me. "
I knew I shouldn't follow him and I shouldn't trust him, I didn't really know him. My heart said otherwise, and before I could change my mind I reached for his hand,
"Okay."
