Equality, the word I've heard all my life. There is no such thing as diversity.
Long ago a superior race was created in order to make everyone equal. Same skin color, same brown hair and brown eyes. All women grow to an equal height and the same with the men.

Lives are pretty much controlled by the government. All are required to wear government provided clothing. Men wear a brown button-up shirt and jeans. Women are allowed to choose between a simple brown dress or a white blouse with a light brown skirt. Everyone has seemed content with these things. No one showed any distaste, or perhaps they knew it would be better not to.

I sit at the counter in the kitchen fiddling with my necklace. At the age of 18, everyone is presented with a necklace that will help them find their soul mate. Half of a heart dangles from my neck as it waits for its other half.

"Iris, I'm beginning to worry, you still haven't found your soulmate and it's almost been a year since you got that necklace." My mother says to me bringing me out of deep thought.

I sigh and stand up," I know, it will be fine, he will show up eventually."

As soon as you find your soulmate you start your new life with them. Due to me not yet finding my soulmate I was still living with my parents. My old friends from when I went to schooling are now moved on with their lives. I am now just a part of their past like many other things from their childhood.

The discovery of your soulmate completely changes your life. You are no longer concerned about preparing for your soulmate. No longer do you have time to giggle with your friends about who will have the most handsome match.

Finding your soulmate meant that you must settle down. Starting a family was the top priority. The females were taught at a young age that we were only on this earth to reproduce. If a women was infertile government officials were summoned and the women was never seen again. The man, left without his soulmate, would either die of a broken heart or be taken to The Asylum.

The Asylum was no place you wanted to end up. It was a terrible place that was run by the government made to keep people inside. People were sent there if they went crazy or if they misbehaved. When some one vanished one day, this is where.

If I didn't find my soulmate by the age of nineteen, I could end up there too.
