"What, no way! For some reason I can't picture you riding Broncos." I stare at Jesse wide eyed in disbelief. After a few dinks in, my eyes are a little glazed and all I can do is focus on him. Everyone else has been forgotten.
"Yeah, I like to live life as if it's my last day on earth. Ya never know when it's gonna be your last."
I watch Jesse take another sip of his beer, and then his eyes turn back to mine. There's a sadness in his eyes, and I can't help but be curious. "And your parents? What do they think of your philosophy?" The sadness deepens. Jesse turns his eyes back to his beer and takes another sip. I can see the pain in his expression, and when he speaks, he it's as if he's in a different place.
"My parents died in a car accident when I was ten. I was raised by my Aunt and Uncle."
All of a sudden his philosophy of life made perfect sense. Without thinking I take his hand in mine. When he meets my gaze I search deep into his eyes to get a glimpse of his soul. Somewhere deep inside is a boy hurting. "I'm so sorry! You must miss them."
"Everyday, but right now all I can think about is you."
A soft smile pulls at my lips. Jesse brings his head closer to mine, and I don't pull away. When our lips meet his lips are soft, warm, and inviting. Jesse deepens the kiss, and as I open my mouth to welcome his tongue his hands encircle my waist lifting me up onto his lap. His tongue slides into my mouth, and my senses ignite. His hands slide under my shirt and his fingers trace lightly across my skin. Completely lost in a trance, I savor the taste of him. It isn't till we hear someone scream that we pull away. Jesse swears under his breath and then both of us turn our heads towards the commotion. Trent is in a full blown fist fight with some guy. I turn my attention to Kat. The terrified look on her face says it all. Without a second thought, I stand and stumble my way over. Once I reach Kat I see that she is shaking. "Kat, what happened?"
"This guy came out of no where wanting to dance. I told him I was with someone, but he wouldn't take no for an answer. He grabbed my arm quite forcefully and then Trent returned from the bar. When he saw me struggling to get away, Trent took the first swing."
I turn my head back towards the fight to see Jesse, Bryan, and Roy step in. All three have looks to kill. The man instantly backs away, and then turns around and heads for the exit. I turn my attention back to Kat and wrap my arms around her. Pulling her into a hug, I try to give her some comfort. Her shaking body starts to relax when Samantha and Caitlin head over.
"Wow, this night has been insane!"
I look over at Caitlin to see her stumbling and laughing. The excitement of the night painted all over her face. She and I have never had a lot in common. "Not to be rude, Caitlin, but aren't you not suppose to be drinking?" Caitlin's expression turns to anger when she looks at me.
"You actually think I'm gonna miss out on the fun? We'll call an Uber, and everything will be fine."
Caitlin rolls her eyes and then stumbles slowly over to Roy. Wrapping his arm around her, I watch as says something to her, and then they make their exit. A sick feeling settles in my gut as I watch the way Roy is looking at her. Quickly, I get my phone out and dial Caitlin's number. No answer. Turning my gaze quickly toward Samantha I try to get her attention but she too is occupied. I make my way toward Jesse. When he sees me a big grin lights up his face, and he comes walking towards me as well. When he gets closer his grin quickly disappears.
"What's wrong?"
I bite my lip trying to decide what to say. Roy is a close friend of his, and I don't want to offend him. "Im not sure if I trust your friend Roy. He and Caitlin left together, and I have a feeling something bad is going to happen." Jesse swears under his breath, and without saying a word runs off to talk to Bryan. I watch as concern falls over Bryan's face, and then he leans over to whisper something in Samantha's ear. Samantha nods, and starts making her way towards me. Without a glance back Jesse and Bryan head toward the exit. When Samantha reaches me, fear is written all over her face.
