My head is pounding, and as I slowly open my eyes I feel myself squint at the brightness above me. Bright lights are shining down, and it's then I realize I'm lying naked on a bed in only my bra and panties. A light sheet is draped over me and it's in that moment that all the memories of the night before come to my remembrance.
Sitting up, I glance around the enormous room. Confusion falls over me. The room is sparkly clean, and comfortable. There's a small section in the corner with a bathroom, and hanging at the foot of the king size bed is a thick cozy silk blanket.
"Good morning Lexie, we hope your room is to your liking. Thanks for volunteering! Your services will be rewarded. Please press the orange button to the left of the door if you need assistance."
Volunteer? I didn't volunteer for anything. The voice sounding over the intercom was female. What is going on? Without a moments pause, I quickly walk from the bed, and over to the orange button. Pressing it once, twice, three times... I continue to push it. The fear rising inside me is at it's peak. Finally, the same women speaks up.
"Yes, Lexie, did you need something?"
"Are you serious? I need someone to tell me why I'm here."
"I understand your confusion. Someone will be down to explain things to you shortly. I'm not allowed to answer any questions. Please, wait patiently!"
Anger is building up inside me. I try the handle of the door, and by no surprise find it locked. Ty's sick game is turning into a web of confusion. Why did he bring me here? Where am I?
Pacing the floor, I try to make sense of everything.
But, nothing adds up. I hear a sequence of beeps before the door to the room slowly opens. Running over to the bed, I grab the sheet and wrap it around my exposed body. Next, I see the one person I know will have answers to my questions."Ty?" Ty is the bar tender at the bar where Caitlin disappeared. He's always been friendly to my friends and I, but now I'm afraid I never really knew him.
"Lexie, how do you like your room?"
"This isn't my room! Why did you bring me here?"
"Please, have a seat on the bed. Let me explain."
"You could have done that a long time ago instead of playing games, and threatening people I love."
Ty walks towards me, and I feel my legs back up against the bed causing me to sit.
"But you know how much I love games. I promise to explain everything. For now..."
Ty shifts his hand from his back and points a gun at me.
"I need you to cooperate and hold out your arm. I need to get a blood sample from you."
Adrenaline is coursing through my veins. I've never had a gun pointed at me before. Not sure I have any other choice, I hold out my arm.
Ty slides his backpack off and fishes out a needle and a swab. He cleans the area before inserting the needle into my arm. He takes a few vials of blood before withdrawing the needle.
"Very good, Lexie! You are getting better at following directions. Now that I have your blood, we won't need this anymore."
Ty pulls the trigger to show me it was never loaded, and then places the gun in his backpack.
"Everything I've done the past few days have been done to get your heart racing. We need you to be full of adrenaline as much as possible for the blood sample I just took. Hence the gun. All of this is for research. We are paid by the government to bring in young people such as yourself and gain data for our records. I can't tell you the cause at this time, but know that it is for a good one. One that serves your country."
