Lacheana watched as the dwarves boarded their boat. She was staying determined that she will stay behind. "Lacheana, in you go, lass." Balin said. Lacheana shook her head slightly. "You are not coming?" Balin asked confused. Lacheana nodded once. "But you are our dragon expert..." Ori said a bit sad. "We don't need her, we have our burglar." Thorin said like Lacheana was nothing but a burden to him and the others, but the sad reality was that she was just born with pointy ears and fair skin.
"You do know that we're one short. Where's Bofur?" Bilbo asked letting Thorin's words past his ears. "If he's not here, we leave him behind." Thorin said determined to make it in time. "We have to, if we're to find the door before nightfall. We can risk no more delays." Balin explained Thorin's harsh statement. Kili started to step into the boat but Thorin stopped him saying: "Not you. We must travel with speed, you will slow us down." Thorin, I understand me, but your own blood? Kili smiled and asked: "What are you talking about? I'm coming with you." "No." Thorin's decision was firm.
"I'm going to be there when that door is opened, when we first look upon the halls of our fathers, Thorin." Kili tried to persuade his uncle. "Kili, stay here. Rest. Join us when you're healed." Thorin said laying his hands on Kili's shoulders and smiled at him. But Kili looked betrayed. Thorin turned towards the boat when Oin got out of it. "I'll stay with the lad. My duty lies with the wounded." he said.
"Uncle, we grew up on tales of the mountain. Tales you told us. You can't take that away from him." Fili said frustrated by his uncle's decision. "Fili." Thorin said trying to calm him down. "I will carry him, if I must!" Fili shouted. "One day you will be king and you will understand. I cannot risk the fate of this quest for the sake of one dwarf, not even my own kin." Thorin said. Fili looked at Kili and stepped out of the boat while Thorin tried to stop him. "Fili, don't be a fool. You belong with the company." Thorin said. "I belong with my brother." Fili said harshly. He was hurt and didn't want to leave his younger brother behind.
Lacheana looked how the dwarves paddled away. "Ah! So you missed the boat as well?" Bofur suddenly asked. Nobody answered him because Kili yelled out in pain and started to fall but Fili caught him. Lacheana took off her gloves handing them to Bofur before picking Kili up. They rushed towards Bard's house.
Fili knocked on the door. Bard opened it and said: "No. I'm done with dwarves. Go away." He tried to close the door but Bofur stopped it with his foot. "No, no, no! No one will help us. Kili's sick. He's very sick." Bofur explained hastily and Lacheana gave Bard a rather terrifying and judging look. Bard looked at the pale and sweaty dwarf in Lacheana's hands. He thought for a moment before opening the door wider for them. Lacheana placed the sick dwarf on a bed. When Kili looked up at her she seemed fairer than the surroundings and her body emitted warm glow.
Oin searched through his bag for any medicine. Lacheana placed her fair hands on Kili's head and stroke the hair away from his face. Bofur rushed over with some warm water. "Can you not do something?" Fili asked worriedly. Lacheana shook her head and Oin said: "I need herbs, something to bring down his fever." Bard searched through some bags and said: "I have nightshade, feverfew..."
Oin cut him off and asked: "They're no use to me. Do you have any kingsfoil?" "No, it's a weed. We feed it to the pigs." Bard said. "Pigs? Weed? Right." Bofur said like he got everything. He turned to leave but before he did he pointed at Kili and said: "Don't move." He then ran off. I can't do anything to save this poor soul. Oh Varda, please help me! She continued to clean Kili's wound hoping that Bofur finds some kingsfoil quickly.
Suddenly a roar echoed through the air. Everyone looked around as the dust fell from the ceiling. Lacheana knew immediately that it did not promise good. "Da?" Sigrid, Bard's oldest child asked, worriedly. "It's coming from the mountain." Bain, Bard's son pointed out. Fili approached Bard and said: "You should leave us. Take your children, get out of here."
"And go where? There is nowhere go."
"Are we going to die, da?" Tilda, Bard's little daughter asked scared. Lacheana shook her head and looked deeply into the girls eyes. They were full of fear. Lacheana gave Tilda a reassuring smile before she returned to Kili's side but she followed Bard with her gaze. "The dragon, it's going to kill us." Tilda exclaimed. Bard looked at his children worriedly. He then reached up and pulled out a black arrow from the net hanging from the ceiling. "Not if I kill it first." Bard said with determination and went outside with Bain. Lacheana turned her attention back to Kili when he yelled out in pain again. She hoped that Bofur would come back any minute now.
Bain returned alone. "Da was taken to prison." he said worriedly. The girls looked sad but they knew that he would be alright. Sigrid heard a sound outside. She went out on the balcony and called out for her father. Lacheana and Oin heard a noise on the roof and suddenly an orc jumped down on the balcony behind Sigrid.
Lacheana was quickly on her feet again. She drew out her sword and killed the orc with one swift movement. Bard's daughters hid under the table when two other orcs came inside, one through the roof and the other through the door. Lacheana fought as hard as she could but there was not much room and she didn't want to hurt any of her friends. More orcs jumped through the roof and came through the doors. Oin, Fili and Bain made great effort to hold the orcs back.
One of the orcs flipped over the table underneath what Sigrid and Tilda hid. Both of the girls screamed out in horror. Suddenly Tauriel appeared through the door and started killing orcs. Legolas jumped down through one of the holes in the roof. An orc reached Kili and he stabbed it with Tauriel's knife that she had thrown at an orc earlier. Tauriel assisted him but Kili fell down in pain.
The orcs inside the house were all dead but Lacheana knew that at least one got away. She grabbed her gloves and helmet before running out of the house leaving Kili in the healing hands of Tauriel. Legolas saw Lacheana running from the balcony, which he was on and where he had killed two orcs earlier. He wanted Tauriel to come with him but she refused knowing well that she needed to save Kili's life so Legolas chased after Lacheana alone.
Lacheana heard fighting behind her. She turned around and saw Legolas on the ground and a huge orc approaching him. She saw how the orc kicked Legolas but he tripped the orc. She run to the orc jumped at the orc's shoulders when he had Legolas in a crushing embrace against his chest. Lacheana stabbed his back but she was thrown away before she could kill him. The orc threw Legolas into the hands of two other orcs before fleeing himself. Legolas managed to take care of one of them while Lacheana decapitated the other. Lacheana noticed that Thorin's sword was now used by Legolas. She admired how graceful Legolas was in his movements when her own fighting style resembled more dwarf's movements.
When they had killed the two orcs Lacheana stepped closer to Legolas. She took off one of her gloves and approach silently with her fair hand. Legolas was shocked when he saw that Lacheana's had came back bloody from his nose. She wiped her hand clean into her pants and they both silently agreed that they had to go after the orc. Lacheana summoned her horse and mounted it. Legolas mounted a white horse and they galloped after the orc who was riding a warg.
Lacheana saw the dragon in the distance. She left the orc for Legolas and rode back towards Lake Town. Her eyes were filled with fear and disbelief when she heard the dragon roar: "I am fire. I am... DEATH!"
