What does that student think he is doing!

Astra fumed as he patted down places on his shirt that had burned through and were still on fire.

First this student invades his napping space and now he blasts him with a spell? He growled and stood up, his anger showing evidently on his face.

“Astra?” Mikel asked in surprise, staring. “Oh my God, I’m sorry. I didn’t know it was you, I thought you were a monster.”

Astra’s eyebrows lifted. “A monster? Seriously?”

“Well… I expected to be alone here so when I saw your eyes, I kind of freaked out,” Mikel explained, his arm falling to his side uselessly.

“There’s,” he stopped awkwardly and patted the left side of his hair. “Um, well, your hair, it’s on fire.”

Astra patted his wild curls blandly, trying to look more intimidating but was dismayed to find he and the apprentice were the same height. “Thanks, I wonder whose fault that was.”

Mikel winced and offered a good weak smile. “Sorry about that.”

“What were you even doing out here?” Astra asked and looked around. “It was lights out ages ago.”

“I was practising,” Mikel explained and pointed to his staff and the pile of books. “I’m trying to improve my magic and regulate the stamina I expend when using magic since… you’re staring at me, oh, okay. Weird but stare all you want…”

“What’s a pih zah?” Astra asked suddenly.

“What?” Mikel asked, looking panicked, “where did you hear that?”

“And Ani may? Are they people dear to you? You were talking about them during the first paramilitary exercise.” Astra said, as he remembered where he had seen the Mikel before.

“You’re in my class aren’t you?” he added as he saw the metal weights on Mikel’s body. “You’re the Druid, Mikey.”

“Mikel,” Mikel corrected, nodding.

Astra looked at him expectantly, “Well, answer me. What’s this pih zah you talk of? It sounds like an exotic food.”

Mikel spoke before he thought, “It’s not really exotic but it’s very satisfying. It’s baked dough in the form of a flat circle with a variety of toppings like tomato sauce and cheese…”

Too late, he realized what he was saying and tried to end the conversation, “…but it is sadly only and exclusively available in my township.”

The dreamy look Astra had adopted as Mikel was explaining suddenly vanished, “What?”

Mikel nodded, feeling clever as Astra's shoulders drooped, “Alas, this is true.”

He turned away, feeling like he had averted a disaster.

“Well, can’t you make it?” Astra called, sounding strangely desperate. “It sounds simple enough.”

“No,” Mikel refused immediately. He picked up his staff and the library books and made to leave.

“You’re horrible in my class” Astra suddenly said and Mikel froze.

“What?!” he shouted, craning his neck to face Astra.

“You always look like you’re going to faint when you hold a dagger, and both your offense and defense in one on one combat is not very good. It seems the only thing you’ve improved is your speed in the running exercise,” Astra listed out authoritatively, counting on his fingers as he spoke.
