Chapter 20

(THIS IS EXTREMELY TOOTH-ROTTING FLUFF AND YES ITS A BIT CRINGE BUT WHO DOESN'T WANT SOME CRINGY ROMANCE IN THEIR LIFE, ENJOY IF YOU WANT.)

Yama giggled "Kei...listen."

Tsukki winced "How dare you turn me into fucking Zac Efron."

Yama knew there was no one around, there never was. For some reason, they never really ran into anyone on the way home. So without a second thought, he began to sing.

"I gotta say what's on my mind
Something about us
Doesn't seem right these days"

Tsukki shook his head "I'm not singing."

"Life keeps getting in the way
Whenever we try
Somehow the plan
Is always rearranged
It's so hard to say
But I've got to do what's best for me
You'll be okay"

Yama twirled around, draping himself over his best friend before spinning off in the other direction.

Kei hid a smile, sighing at the boys stupid antics.

"I've go to move on and be who I am
I just don't belong here, I hope you understand
We might find a place in this world someday
But at least for now, I gotta go my own way"

They were approaching Tsukki's house, and the boy recalled the first time he'd heard his best friend sing.  Akiteru had let him in the house without Tsukki's knowledge, but he was quite pleasant to listen to.

"Don't wanna leave it all behind
But I get my hopes up
And I watch them fall every time
Another color turns to gray
And it's just too hard to watch it all
Slowly fade away"

Tsukki was enjoying this, Yama could tell.

"I'm leaving today
'Cause I gotta do what's best for me
You'll be okay
I've got to move on and be who I am
I just don't belong here
I hope you understand
We might find a place in this world someday
But at least for now
I gotta go my own way"

Yama threw open Tsukishima's house door, turning to smile at him "Come on, don't be lameee."

Tsukishima sighed rolling his eyes, but he did as he was asked even if it wasn't with any amount of overwhelming enthusiasm. That was enough for Yamaguchi.

"What about us?
What about everything we've been through?"

Yama let out a laugh, a bright smile taking over his face.

"What about trust?"

"You know I never wanted to hurt you"

Tsukki genuinely meant that part, even if Yamaguchi didn't know

They began to walk up the steps, Yama doing two at a time to make it more dramatic.

"What about me?"

"What am I supposed to do?"

"I gotta leave-"

Ay, pair sang well together.

"-But I'll miss you." They shared a smile as Yamaguchi almost tripped over the top of the staircase.

"So, I've got to move on and be who I am"

"Why do you have to go?"

"I just don't belong here
I hope you understand"

"I'm trying to understand"

"We might find a place in this world someday
But at least for now"

"I want you to stay"

"I gotta go my own way"

Yamaguchi crossing his hands over his heart jokingly, giggling at the pure essence of the moment.

"I've got to move on and be who I am"

"What about us?"

"I just don't belong here

I hope you understand"

"I'm trying to understand"

"We might find a place in this world someday"

"World someday" Tsukki repeated as the green haired boy walked dramatically into his room.

"But at least for now..."

"I gotta go my own way

I gotta go my own way

I gotta go my own way"

Tsukki joined in on the last note and just like that the moment was over.

Yama flopped down on Tsukki's bed, clutching his stomach as he laughed.

Tsukki just started at him, smiling.

What a dork.

"God I love you," he whispered .

"Hm?" Yama sat back up, tilting his head curiously "What'd you say?'

Tell him. Do it now.

Tsukki clicked off his phone "Nothing."

God you're an idiot

He flopped down on the bed, next to Yamaguchi.

"You know, you're never picking a song ever again."

And surprisingly Yama wrapped his arms around the taller boy, nuzzling his face into his chest "Alright...thank you."

"For what?" Asked Tsukki, his body craving the others touch and rejoicing as he hugged him.

"For being yourself."

Tsukki shook his head with a sigh," You softie."

Yama grinned "You know...you're not as mean as everyone thinks you are."

"Whatever you say, Tadashi."

He wasn't satisfied with the answer he had given. In fact he wanted to say more but...he couldn't.

"Don't worry, you're perfect" Yamaguchi whispered back.

And he meant it.

Yama blinked and he was back in the present.

He dropped the polaroid, barely acknowledging the salty tears running down his cheeks.

He truly thought Kei had been perfect.

(I'm dying because something went wrong while I was editing and it didn't save but whatever, I'm gonna keep going and I'll be finished by today or tomorrow, hope everyone is well :D)
