-this was just something I've been wondering about, thoughts?-
"Martian anatomy and culture is vastly different to that of humans." M'gann was speaking a surpressed train of thought. "I'm technically not what humans call 'female'. What am I? I like 'she' and 'her', but genetically, they don't even apply! I just remember watching TV, and being like 'that's who I want to be'." She was struggling to express what she meant. it was hard enough to disclose her 'real appearance', but these questions had been prying at her brain all week.
Dianah reached out and soothed her. "It's alright, a lot of people have confusing thoughts like this, and a lot of people aren't sure about their gender and sexuality..."
"Is it normal?" She sounded hopeful. "And, I'm attracted to men, but I sometimes find other people attractive too.... but mostly men. Is that normal too?"
"Relatively! Gender and sexuality can make each other confusing. You don't have to just be a 'girl', or just be a 'boy'. If you feel like a girl, and you want to be a girl, you can."
"Really?"
"If you identify as a female, that's good, and if it's confusing, and you want to keep exploring, that's also good. You can be attracted to ANYONE you feel. We understand. You can talk."
She nodded, feeling a little more reassured. "Okay, thanks." She admitted shyly. "Sorry."
"No, it's okay." Diahnah cooed. "You can talk to me whenever."
"Right.... thank you." She hurried out, going to her room to expand on these new ideas.
Black Canary sighed, needing a drink. Why couldn't they get these kids an ACTUAL therapist? She didn't have a doctorate in psychology! Nothing could've prepared her for this, it was hard enough to be a literal hero, let alone an on-call counsellor. These teens have actual, complex emotions and ideas that at least deserve an educated ear.
She tried to get back to what she'd been doing, but it was hard; she spent too much spare time thinking about the kids, their problems, wanting to help them...
"Everything okay?" Ollie asked.
"You know I can't tell you that." She stated.
"I don't mean 'tell me confidentlial details', I mean, are YOU okay?"
"Fine, just... a little overwhelmed, maybe."
He nodded. "You know, LGBT kids tend to radiate to each other." She gave him a confused side-eye. "Oh- right- Um, so Roy came out to me last week..."
"And the team sets off your 'gaydar'." She sighed.
"Exactly. Superboy feels straight, aqualad has been confirmed gay, but the others are very... queer. I don't know about them." He admitted.
-might do more shorts where the team members learn about gender and sexual identity-
