a special meeting

Lux Bonteri was anxious yet excited to see the special guests his mother was having over. Having people over that weren't diplomatic or political was a rarity, and Lux prayed to whatever Gods were above or below that these visitors at least had some sense of humor.

His mother was in a state of panic; every speck of dust and every corner had to be spotless. Because as Mina put it, the already clean estate needed to be cleaner.

Lux could see where she was coming from, though. His mother was esteemed high in reputation, and she didn't want anything to damper it.

Things had gotten rather boring in the estate; nothing to do but listen to politicians speak "words of wisdom" about this or that, or whether so-and-so was correct about their point-of-view.

His "friends" - if you could even call them that - only hung around him for the lavish desserts and vast game rooms. Lux was their pawn, and he was quite sick of it.

Besides, Lux was more interested in delving into a good book than hear the endless debates in the Senate.

The world behind his book-wormish mind was interesting: the conflicts he would end if he had the power, the way certain ideas came into play; how no mind, no matter how smart or dim-witted, could ever think the same. How one's thoughts were sparsely alike. Sentients' brains were truly quite remarkable.

He chuckled to himself. His mother thought this way of thinking was ludicrous—no matter how many times he tried to explain how awe-inspiring the whole concept was.

Mina said that kind of thinking had no business in the Senate. But Lux argued that it could be useful for Senatorial discussions, but she wasn't having any of it. Lux decided she would always be the stubborn, one-dimensional individual she'd always been.

Of course, he loved his mother, and if anything were to happen to her he'd be at a loss. But he was far closer with his father in beliefs and hobbies than anything his mother had to offer. He would always and forever be a father's boy.

Sometimes he'd wonder how different life would be if his father didn't take that trip to Amagar a year ago and got shot dead by a clone. Would he still take Lux every Benduday on a hunting trip? Or would he express his udder hatred for the Republic and the Jedi? Lux wasn't sure, but her sure wish he did.

His calling mother dragged him away from his thoughts. "Lux! Come down here and help our guests with their luggage, please."

He slid off the railing he resided on and took in the sight of Mina's visitors. One was a woman in her twenties with beautiful dark hair and a glorious posture that screamed Senator.

The second was a girl from an alien species that he wasn't entirely familiar with. But whatever she was, she was probably the hottest thing he'd ever laid eyes on.

"Please, allow me," he said, taking the older woman's bag. When the second girl got close enough, he accidentally put his hands on hers while saying "May I?"

"I can handle it," she said with a scowl. Lux was a little aghast but found her fiery attitude a bit attractive.

Fine then, he thought briefly, don't accept any help from me.

Honestly, Lux didn't know what to think from this girl. She was definitely the prettiest lady he's ever seen, but something about her was off; maybe it was her strange reaction to Lux's offer, but he couldn't exactly place it.

This might be more difficult than I thought.

"You're a Jedi, aren't you?"

"Yes, why do you ask?"
