Chapter 3 - Books

Conner walked for a long time.

His thoughts were all over the place, and everything else seemed to disappear in the blur of his mind.

He took a deep breath, trying to stop the tears from falling, but it didn't help.

As he saw people pointing at him, probably recognising him, he put his hood over his head, and entered the first door he found.

As it closed behind him, he felt the warmth of the room in his bones, and suddently calmed down.

He looked up, realizing where he was.
A library.

It was a large room, filled with bookshelves and tables. Students and readers filled it, sitting in front of their laptops or walking around the room, casually taking a book from where it was, leaving an empty space on the book-filled corridors.

In the middle of the hall, a desk, where an old man, probably the librarian, welcomed the ones that entered.

Conner, trying not to get noticed, wandered through the room, silently observing the people around him.

He had never been intrested in books and all that kind of stuff, but he felt a weird sensation about that library, and he couldn't quite tell why.

Until she saw her.

The girl from the bar.

She was sitting at a table with her friend, the one he and the boys had taken a photo with. She was laughing, as they talked.

She was beautiful...

Without realizing it, he had walked against a young man, making his books fall.

"O-oh, sorry" said Conner, picking up his books and giving them to him
"Here you go" he smiled politely, quickly walking away.

"What if she saw me?" he thought, hiding behind a bookshelf "...God, so embarassing..."

"Where are you going?" asked Sarah.

"Wait a second" she smiled, getting up.

She walked for a bit, and then she saw him.

He was pretending to look through some books, but she could tell that he was just trying to hide from her.

She had seen him look at her, before he'd bump into that guy.

"So... guess you really like that book, huh?" she joked, folding her arms and leaning on to the bookshelf.

He quickly looked up at her, and immediately back at the book, hoping she had not recognized him.

"Ehm, yeah... I really love"  he lied, quickly turning it to read its title "...'Andy the frog'..."

He cringed, realizing it was a children's book.

"...It was my favourite story, when I was a kid..."

"Sure...And what does it talk about?" she teased him.

"It talks about... this... F-frog, that... t-that..."

"...You've never read it in your life, haven't you?"

"...Yeah" he admitted, laughing nervously "Guess I got busted, huh..."

He tried to hide his face as much as possible, but it was too late.

"Wait... do I know you?"

"N-no..."

"I've already seen you, somewhere..."

"I-I don't know what you're talking about..."

"Oh, wait! Aren't you the guy my friend loves? Conner? The one from that band..."

He sighed "The Style Boyz, yes..."

"I knew it!... But... what are you doing here? Sorry if I'm rude, but you don't really seem the bookworm type..."

"I-I was just walking around, you know..."

"I didn't think popstars just 'walked around' the city like this..."

"Well, this one does" he laughed, embarassed "...And you? Why are you here?"

"Oh, my father owns this place... he's the one at the front desk"

"Cool! And... do you, like, work here?"

"No, I'm an artist...or at least I'm trying to become one" she laughed, blushing
"... but I spend a lot of my time here. This library is like a second home, to me"

"That's really nice... so, ehm, listen...
I wanted to ask you-

"Y/n! It's late! We gotta go!" said her friend, from the other side of the bookshelf.

"Yeah, I'm coming! Give me a sec!"

She turned back to him.

"Well, I gotta go, now... but it was nice to see you, Conner..." she smiled.

"Yeah, nice to see you too" he smiled back, trying to hide his disappointment.

He had lost his chance... again.

She started walking away, but stopped.

"I almost forgot... what were you going to ask me?"

"Oh, n-nothing much, don't worry...
I don't even remember..." he lied.

"Oh, ok... well, if it comes back to you, you know where to find me"

"Right... see you around, then"

"See you around!" she smiled, walking away.

He watched her leave, knowing he'd come back tomorrow.

And the day after.

And the day after that.

And everyday, just to see her again.
