Chapter III - Strength and Endurance
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
"Hello?! General Fi?! Are you alive in there?!", called out a familiar voice.
I crawled out of my hiding spot to see the crashed helicopter. The helicopter blades were folded into creases; the overall structure was deformed. I also noticed that the engine blew up - how could I tell? - well, an engine in flames should be enough evidence to say so. The impact and explosion killed most of the creatures. Col. Russ kept frying the creatures with his pony's rainbow laser. Eventually, I got up and helped him out in making a clean sweep. Soon after, we approached the debris of the crashed helicopter. Col. Russ and I called out and circled the debris a few times, yet there was no response.
"It's hopeless. It was her first day, and this was her fate.", I said, as I bowed my head in respect.
"No, it shouldn't end this way!", said Col. Russ, as he turned his hands into fists.
Col. Russ ran to the doorway of the helicopter and squeezed himself inside. I was shocked at his actions - how could he possibly have fit in there, despite his fatness?! A few moments later, and a gunshot rang. I could see a hole on the helicopter's roof. Col. Russ called out - he told me to use my Katana to cut the metal open. I punctured my Katana in the bullet hole, and started slicing through. Eventually, I managed to cut a square hole - enough for Col. Russ to climb out. Miraculously, Gen. Fiona was still breathing, yet she was unresponsive.
"She might've been in a shock before or during the helicopter crashed. Or probably she fainted and lost control of her mind.", said Col. Russ, as he walked away from the helicopter, with Gen. Fiona in his arms.
"You're the medic in this team - what do we do to get her back?!", I asked.
"I can't do much as of now. The best thing to do is to get back to EASE HQ and bring her to the infirmary.", Col. Russ replied, as he placed an ice bag on Gen. Fiona's forehead.
I decided to look around the place a bit more, since it was already creature-free. Then, it occurred to me - where's Jaydee?! I look back into the Main Chamber and saw this shadowy figure, ascending from the spiral staircase. I gave Col. Russ a pat on the back to alert him, and we readied to fight whatever was walking towards us. It turns out, it was Jaydee - and he was holding an ancient looking book.
"I'm not sure if this is the artifact, but I guess I found it.", he said.
"How and where did you find it?", I asked.
"I accidentally knocked a torch down, and it turns out - it was a lever that unlocked a door, that unlocked a room, where the book was.", he replied.
"So, wait... We came all the way here for a stupid book?!", said Col. Russ.
"That's not our main concern right now. We need to find a way to get back home to the HQ.", I said, as I interrupted the two to stop a potential arguement.
Jaydee checked on his equipment and made a summary of the events in our mission. Col. Russ attended to Gen. Fiona, just in case she woke up all of a sudden. I walked around the Courtyard and realized that most of our men were dead. Suddenly, three different voices were heard in the distance.
"Hello?! *cough* Sir Craze? Sir Russ? Anyone?!", they called out.
I ran and looked behind the helicopter and saw three surviving soldiers; one of them was Specialist Brock.
