~ Interview~
1. What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
Answer: I don't really know yet but I have a pretty wild imagination and I try to make my books as unique as possible. I try to think of sub plots that other writers might not come up with (I hope).
2. When did you first realize you wanted to be an author?
Answer: I've been writing since I was little and back then I loved reading books. Most times, I had dreams and wrote them down. I wanted to start writing but I didn't have time because of school until last year. Well, my work was crap (somewhat). The only thing good about my book back then was the story but there were a lot of things I needed to work on and fellow authors, reviewers and editors were a big help for me. I took any advice they could give and I applied it to my book. I also did a lot of research and thinking. It might seem mediocre but Google helped a lot. You can find so many helpful tips on the internet. It was until recently that I started enjoying what I was writing, it's fun. I also love sharing my ideas with others through my books.
3. What/Who inspired you to write this book?
Answer: Hmm, I wasn't exactly inspired by anyone. I got most of my ideas from my imagination and overtime, my plans for the story kept changing. The plot for Calcifer currently is completely different from what I had planned for it in the past. I just write as the ideas come.
4. What are common traps for aspiring writers?
Answer: For me, common traps for aspiring writers are a few things. I've been in those situations. The first one is thinking no one at all likes your book and as a result some stop writing altogether because no one seems to read it. But that isn't always the case. As we all learn, our first drafts will never be good, we have to keep editing and working on it to make it better, but some writers (like me in the past) would just leave that work in progress and not even bother to improve it simply because no one is reading. The second one is help. I'm not sure I would call it a trap, but all the same. There are many people who give advice to writers and I see a lot shirk it away; either saying the person was being rude (and I agree some people are mean) but those people have seen something wrong about the book and even if you dislike how they gave it, the least you can do is try to work on where they pointed out.I'm not an expert so I can't really think of any other traps.
5. What do you think makes a good story?
Answer: For me, what makes a good story is the plot and if it is well written. Most times, I can read a very common plot (except romance) if it is written very well. That's a very important factor for readers to enjoy your book and have a smooth read without multiple questions popping in their head. Also, when it comes to plot, I think everything still revolves around well written books. I won't read a book with a unique plot that's written badly; I won't find it enjoyable.
6. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Answer: Well, I wanted to be an architect when I grow up but I'll still have a steady job relating to construction. I love buildings but I also love writing too. I plan on balancing the two together and no matter what I will always create the time to write. It's my hobby and I would also like to have it as a side career.
7.What do you like to do when you're not writing?
Answer: Well, when I'm not writing, I read novels, manga and Webtoons. Then I watch anime. A lot of those things give me ideas and the motivation; there are lots of inspiration you can find there. But if school is in session, I add studying to that and then I write a little. But mostly, I love listening to music, I even listen to it while writing sometimes, but not all the time.
8. Did you have the confidence that you'll have chances to win? If yes, what made you believe so?
Answer: In all honesty, I never had the confidence. I've applied for so many awards and didn't even get a third or fourth except for two or where I got first position. So, it was a great surprise when I actually saw that I won this too. When entering awards, I used to think I'd win but later threw away that thought after a few dashed Hope's and I mostly applied for awards to advertise my book in the hopes that some judge would enjoy reading it.:)
