Chapter 4...Born to kill
***Clyde***
They're here? Who's they? "This is not good. Not good at all." she said in fear. "What's not good!? I asked in concern. "It's a warning!" Lady Danielle said as her voice quivered. She ran out her door, leaving me and Amethyst alone. "Should we check it out?" I asked.
Amethyst rolled her eyes at me. "Of course we're going to check it out! The world may end anytime now!" she said sarcastically and ran out the door. I sighed and followed her.
What I saw next made me want to scream out loud. A casita was on fire. Flames shot out from the windows and the roof. The smell of burning wood and smoke filled the air making me cough. I looked beside me where Amethyst was standing. There was fear and sadness in her light blue eyes.
"Are there people in there?" she asked Lady Danielle. Without a single word having to be said, she nodded silently. "They did this. The hogs did this." she said. "It was a family of five. Three escaped, but there are two people still in there. It's already too late. The two kids; a girl and a boy are as good as dead." Lady Danielle said sadly.
A rush of adrenaline filled my body. I felt as if I wanted to run into the burning house. Fight it Clyde. Fight the feeling off. You can't save them. There is no way you're going to run into the burning casita. No way.
Then, the worst feeling that came to my mind, as I tried my hardest to ignore the sudden urge to run into the casita. I turned around and looked at Amethyst. Just by looking at her sad and angry expression, I knew she was feeling the same thing I was. "Amethyst, don't do it." I warned her.
She said nothing. "Listen to me. Don't do it!" I said even more forcefully this time. She still said nothing. "Amethyst, are you listening!? Don't even think about running into the-" "I'm sorry Clyde. I have to save them." she said cutting me off. Then she ran towards the burning casita. The only option I had was to follow her.
I heard voices from the people scream and yell at us to come back, but we kept running. "Amethyst, you're freaking insane!" I said running behind her. "I know you feel it too, Clyde. You know you were going to do this eventually, right?" she asked. I didn't answer as we both ran into the flaming building.
It was boiling hot inside. Pieces of burning wood were falling from the ceiling. Black smoke filled the room making it extremely hard for me to breathe. "Still...think this was...a good idea?" I gasped for air. Amethyst said nothing, but looked no better than I felt. She was coughing and stumbling on pieces of flaming wood just as I was. After what seemed like forever of...dying, we somehow managed to run up the slowly burning staircase.
"There!" Amethyst croaked. Her voice was weak and raspy from the smoke. I looked over to where she was pointing. I spotted two little kids hiding and hugging in the corner of their bedroom. "Come with us! We'll get you out of here!" I said, my voice surprisingly confident and convincing. Without any hesitation, the two kids ran towards me and Amethyst.
We carried them and ran down the stairs. A piece of flaming wood fell on my left leg as I felt my flesh sizzle and burn away. I yelled out loud trying my hardest not to fall down with the kid in my arms. The casita was collapsing slowly. We had to make it out quickly. It wasn't soon before we reached the door. We sprinted out of the casita just before it completely collapsed.
I put the kid down carefully and gasped for air, trying my hardest to stay conscious. Amethyst did the same beside me. The two children ran to their parents and embraced them with a hug. "We did it." I finally managed to say to Amethyst. "We saved them."
She nodded. Her beautiful face was filled with filth and dirt, and her eyes were red from the smoke. I probably didn't look any better. "Clyde," Amthyst said, "Look over there."
