Friendships change

This poem takes a turn down a dark alley.
I wrote it when I was absolutely overwhelmed by an avalanche of events that happened all together. Friends acting odd, and getting distant. A tremendous increase in the work load. Utter confusion of what to do in life and an understanding that it was just as bad for everyone that I knew.

Easy come easy go,
That's the rythm people show,
Random hi's, fake smiles,
Society demands formality after all.

In a time, when all are busy,
Overburden, running the rat race,
Tired, yet trying to outrun the rest,
It's a tragedy,
That we break each other down,
Instead of building 'us' up.

The stress gets us all,
The seductress breaking the will of the mighty,
We finally snap, become mean,
Lose our heads, calm and rationality.

We say things we dont mean,
Do things at extremes,
Logic is the last thing that guides us,
Instead a strife is set between us.

It's a call made in desperation,
A cry for help,
Masked as a lapse, momentarily in judgement.
But who can answer?
After all, all of us rock the same boat.

Friendships become strained,
Greetings now pained,
I take the crazy road and make a dry joke,
You take the dark one, decide to have fun,
Poke and prod at my lifeless laugh,
And for formalities sake, I shake it off.

But we both know,
The other isn't to blame,
The pressure on us, changes the best,
We are but, same as the rest.

Thus friends slowly turn strangers,
Once cheerful greetings now seem faker,
I slowly start to avoid you, as you me,
And we both go easily, our separate ways.
