Amber's P.O.V.

I was sixteen years old when the airplane I was on spiraled into the ocean.

My grandmother, who I'd been visiting for the past month, drove me to the airport. "Thanks." I told her as I unbuckled my seatbelt. "Do you want me to go in with you?" she asked. "No. That's okay," I replied. I got out of the car and grabbed my suitcase from the trunk. My grandma rolled the window down. "I love you, Amber." "Love you too," I called over my shoulder.

I entered the airport, pulling my huge suitcase behind me. After fighting my way through a crowd of people, I made my way over to the Australian Airlines counter. The ticket agent tagged my luggage and gave me my boarding pass.

I slung my carry-on bag over my shoulder and boarded the plane. I walked down the thin aisle until I found my third-class seat. Sitting down, I buckled myself in.

As I pulled my book out of my carry-on bag, the plane took off. I was headed back to the U.S., and leaving Australia behind.

Eventually. I heard the pilot speak over the intercom. "Calmly put on the lifejackets that are under your seat. We may experience a crash-landing."

What?

A sense of panic rose. Once I was able to grasp what was going on, I frantically unbuckled my seatbelt and searched for my lifejacket. With shaking hands, I put the lifejack on and fastened it.

A frantic air hostess told us to stay in our seats.

The nose of the plane violently jerked upwards. I screamed as my head hit the back of my seat.

Then the plane hit the water. I heard glass breaking. Water filled my throat, and I was totally disoriented.
