The Thing I Wished For

It has been a month since I came to this villa and started to live here. I have been going to the city for shopping along with my colleague Rupert. Rupert is an elf and like all elves he thinks highly of himself. That is why he never talks to anyone and has a very gloomy personality and always keeps to himself. It has been hard to socialize with him. We don't even communicate with each other. He just observes and stares at me the whole time. In the villa too he doesn't get along well with others. In the house we both were ignored, the thing that differed was that I tried to make contact with other members but he didn't even tried. I think that he is a very weird person but still he never leaves my side outside, about which I am great full.

Going out to the city regularly helped me gain knowledge about the society, the people, the currency they used, and their tradition. Shopping was a piece of cake for me now. I had been accustomed of hiding my face during the entire time out of the villa. Even then I still walked in fear that if someone gets to know my identity, what all harm would they cause me. Until now everyday was same for me, even today I got ready to go for shopping expecting it to be same as always but fate had already planned something for me.

"Lynx come where are you, come here" the master was calling for me.

"Yes sir, I am on my way" I replied.

I hurried out of the room and met with master.

"Today I have some work in the city. As you too are going to the same place, you can come with me, I will drop you at the market. You do your work and wait for me, I will pick you up on my way back from the same spot I left you"

"But master wont your work take too much of time, I mean I can return in the time you come and pick me up"

"You are right, then... what about taking a little detour. You can take a tour of the city. You haven't toured the city until now, so make a good use of that time and get to know more about the city. It's a capital city so there will be lot of things which you must haven't see"

"But sir what if I get in some kind of trouble?"

"Don't worry I will give you an amulet. It has the emblem of the army embedded on it. So if you get lost or fall in trouble show them this and they will leave you. After all the army is given great respect in this country."

He reached into his pocket and took out an amulet and handed it over to me

"Here you go, don't part your ways with this, it's like your life insurance"

"Yes Sir I got it"

"Call Rupert, tell him we are leaving together"

I called Rupert and he came down. We both walked outside the villa where the master siting in the carriage was waiting for us. We took our seat behind the master. The carriage started moving as we took our seats.

It was the usual daily scene for me from villa to the city, farms, cattle, rivers. So there was nothing out of usual for me to see. We made our way into the city. Most of the people were gazing at our car. It must be because we were travelling in an officer's car, naturally peoples gazes will be turned towards a vehicle with army flag and a star. The driver left us close to the shopping street.

"I hope you make use of your time well and get to see the city closely" Master said these words and left for the army headquarters. It was only me and Rupert again. We started walking towards our usual shopping store. Rupert was quite as always so I thought of talking with him.

"Say Rupert why are you so introvert. I haven't seen you talking with anyone in the villa nor in the city"

"It's just that I don't think highly of other people. To me all those people in the villa are trash. They all are dumb and not worth wasting my time. I only acknowledge those whom I deem worthy like the master" Rupert replied.
