"Ashanti! Ashanti! Have you been listening to anything i've been saying?" Alex asked.

"Umm no sorry, I kinda zoned out." I said honestly.

"Baby can you just stop thinking about that idiot already!" Alex yelled and slammed his fist on his desk.

"I- I- uh, sorry I really didn't mean to I'm just going through a lot." I said with my head down.

"Well if your weren't so intense about me taking care of you I could help with that stress." He said rubbing his temple.

"Not now. Please let's not start an argument." I said standing up from my chair.

"I didn't tell you to leave." Alex said sounding angry.

"And since when do I take orders from you?" I turned around quick ready to check him.

"I tell you what to do when and how you need to do it." He said eyes turning a deeper brown with every word.

"Really? Because I'm not one of your fucking gang members or whatever you wanna call them. Im your fiance and your making that less and less possible by talking to me like this." I said rolling my eyes and turning back around.

"If you leave this room I'm going to fuck you up." He said seething with anger.

"So now your gonna hit me? Fuck you Alex Im tired of this shit. I knew I shoulda stayed my black ass home and lay my black ass around." I said turning the door knob and walking towards the stairwell.

"Babe wait I didn't-"
" Save it I don't care what you didn't mean to do." I said cutting him off as he ran out of his office.

"Don't act like this, especially not with me." He said grabbing my elbow tightly stopping me in my tracks.

"Be like what? Im not being like anything but myself and if you can't accept that, you can't accept me. Now if you would kindly let go of my elbow, I would like to go home." I said snatching away from him.

Some of you might think what im doing is stupid but it's not. He does this a little too often for my liking, like every other day.

"So your really just gonna walk out?" He yelled from the top of the stairs.

"Yep, the same way you got me fucked up. Call me when you know the difference between a wife and a maid!" I yelled back walking out of the house.

On my way home I stopped at the cemetery I knew too well. I slowly made my way through the different people and names that I had never known or heard of; and when I got to the head stone I was here to see I stopped right in front of it.

Gone but never forgotten

I didn't get to spend a whole five minutes with my baby. She was born premature do to my stress and lack of health for myself. Everyday I think about what I could have done to prevent her from dieing. But Everyday a little voice in my head tells me that whatever I wanted to do wouldn't have changed the outcome. I never got to hear her cry, I never got to see her smile, I never got to be her mother. And that's what hurts the most. Still today she is my life, my soul; without her ever existing I don't know were I would be. She is my motivation to do better and im not settling for anything else.

"Is that your daughter? A female voice asked from behind me." I turned around and wiped the tears from my eyes.

"Yes." I said smiling but my smile soon faded when I saw who was standing there.
