The Self-Destruct Button
" Okay, anyone who says you can sleep when you die, tell them to come talk to me after a few months at a new job. Of course, it's not just the job that keeps us up all night."
I picked up my alarm clock off the ground before hitting the snooze button. I moved my arm back to run it up Derek's leg which was behind me. "We have to get up now." I said before Derek rolled over softly. We didn't get much of any sleep last night.
"What? My god, what time is it?" Derek asked. I rolled over and hugged Derek into my chest.
"It's 5:20." I said rolling over Derek to lay on top of him slightly.
"And you have to leave before they see you." I said before Derek swapped us so that now I was laying underneath him.
"Oh, come on, now. Why don't you just let them see?" Derek said and I laughed as he kissed down my neck. I pushed him off before having a shower. After my shower, I walked back into the room to see Derek gone. I sighed, hoping no one saw him. I walked downstairs and into the kitchen, seeing Izzy and George at the island bench.
"Hi. Good morning." I said walking over to the coffee machine.
"It sounded like you were having pretty radical sex last night, all night long. Who was the guy?" Izzy asked me and I smiled softly as Meredith walked in and she looked at me as if not to say anything.
"No one you know." I said. Izzy chuckled before grabbing her stuff and leaving with George and Meredith. I left just after them in my own car. I walked into the hospital and yawned. Maybe sex all night was a bad idea. I walked into the x-ray room and saw Burke and Alex. I walked up to the board to see a gunshot wound the bullets still inside.
"Wow." I said.
"That's a bullet from a previous gunshot." Alex said as Burke pointed to the bullet on the x-ray. I chuckled.
"Previous gunshot?" I asked.
"No reason to take it out." Alex said and I raised my eye brows. Who likes having bullets inside of them.
"No, the guy likes pain." Burke said and I scoffed.
"Ouch." I mumbled.
"It's his ethos." Alex said and I crossed my arms.
"Pain as an ethos?" I asked and they nodded. Burke looked at the scans closer.
"Wait, I think I know this guy. You remember this guy?" Burke asked as Bailey walked in showing her the scan.
"Hey, the tattooed masochist." Bailey said.
"Had himself shot again." Burke replied.
"Glad to see he's still stupid." Bailey said before Karev, Burke and I walked out to go speak with this idiot with the pain ethos. We walked over to him and he smiled.
"Doc." He said.
"I prefer we stop meeting like this, Mr. Owens." Burke said shaking his hand before helping him sit up.
"So hows the trumpet playing?" Digby asked.
"Very safe, compared to your hobby. Getting shot is a littler more risky." Burke said placing the stethoscope onto his neck to listen for Irregular breathing sounds.
"That's kind of the point isn't it?" I asked and Digby looked up at me and smiled.
"He's running a fever." Burke said.
"Due to the extra stress in his body from the gunshot." Alex explained and I nodded.
"Digby...the impact of the bullet on your chest fractured a rib and caused a hemopneumothorax." Burke explained.
