A Hard Day's Night

"You either win or you lose, that's what I was taught for the better half of my life. When my mother gave me up the day after I was born to the day, I became a world renown surgeon. My mother was also a world renown surgeon. I don't know if she'd call me one but today, I was kinda screwed."

I rolled slightly, the sun coming through a window somewhere. My eyes opened slowly, adjusting to the light. I rubbed them, removing the sleep from them while glancing around at what seemed to be a trailer.

As the events from last night slowly started to come back to me, my eyes widened in slight disbelief and horror. I shifted my head, looking over my shoulder and noticed the figure of a man, not just any man, but the figure of my best friend, curled up beside me.

I stood up slowly, trying not to wake him. I wrapped a sheet around myself and started to collect my clothes. "This is, Uh..." his voice perked up as he held my bra in the air, possibly found amongst the bed. I leaned over and snatched it from him, glaring at his smug face.

"So humiliating, on so many different levels. I need to leave." I exclaimed turning and pulling my underwear up my legs under the sheet before dropping the sheet and shifting my bra up my arms, trying to clip it behind myself but failing.

I felt his fingers against my skin and took a deep breath, he held the bra clips and leant down to my ear. "Why don't you just come back to bed, and we'll pick up where we left off?" He asked softly. I scoffed, stepping out of his grasp doing the clips up myself quickly. I shook my head while yanking my jeans up my legs and throwing my shirt on.

"No, seriously Der." I started while looking at the time on my phone, my eyes widened as I continued to grab things. "We are late for work. Now get dressed." I stated before looking around again, waving my phone around the place. "Wait...you actually live in a trailer?" I asked placing on my shoes and socks. He chuckled before standing up not bothering to hide his junk. I glanced down before turning my head away. I stood up and looked at him after he had placed on his jeans.

"Do you want to drive together?" Derek asked. I looked at him like he'd just murdered my cat. "I'll take that as a no." He continued. I chuckled softly at his humor.

"Goodbye, Derek." I said before leaving out the front door and running to my car before driving to the hospital.

I was lucky that I kept spare clothes and scrubs at the hospital, otherwise I would have been really late. I stood in the nurse's station, going over some of my patient charts when I heard Dr. Bailey's voice. I looked up and noticed she had a couple of interns with her, and she was explaining her 'rules' to them.

She stopped in front of me. "Dr Bailey. How are you this morning?" I asked politely giving a smile to her and the interns. She smiled back at me.

"I'm good thank you Dr Grey. These are my interns, Christina Yang, George O'Malley, Isabel Stevens and Meredith Grey. Interns this is Evangeline Grey, she works alongside Dr. Burke in Cardio." Bailey introduced us and I waved my hand slightly. Christina step forward and grabbed my hand unexpectedly while shaking it.

"It is such a pleasure to meet you. I have followed your work since I started med school. Two-time Harper Avery winner." Christina spoke highly. I chuckled before nodding.

"Thank you. If you will excuse me. Bailey, are you alright if I steal Meredith? I'll return her soon?" I asked. Bailey nodded before I motioned for Meredith to follow me. We entered one of the conference rooms and engulfed each other in a hug.

"I'm so happy you are here!" Meredith exclaimed in excitement. I smiled and nodded.

"Me too." I replied. We sat down and spoke for about 10 minutes. I had visited a little while ago when Ellis developed Alzheimer's and had to go to an aged care home. Other than that Meredith and I had only really spoken on the phone.
